I recently purchased a GT250 that wasn’t running. I have spark and fuel (new carb) but my I only have about 65psi when I check compression. This is after adjusting the valves. I’m not sure if I have worn rings, a valve thats not seating or maybe a head gasket? Just looking to see what others have seen with these engines before i tear it down. Also where is a good place to buy parts?

Are you checking the compression with throttle wide open? Put a table spoon or so of oil down the spark plug hole. Turn it over a few times. If the compression goes up alot you have bad rings.

I added the oil and I had 155 psi. I put the plug back in and it started and ran good until the oil burned off. Time to shop for a top end kit. Thanks for the suggestion!

What does your oil smell like. Is it low?

I found a piston ring kit on eBay. Anyone used this one?

If you're gonna redo top end have your head port and polished. It'll wake it up!
