So I ditched the CBR954RR engine and just finished ordering a slew of parts to put this together...a little different for me, but should be fun!

Jackshaft set up...I'm going to try and have the motor fitted tomorrow.

Got ready to cut all the mounts and tack them together then stalled...thought I was going to adjust chain tension using washers under the jackshaft. Now I'm debating trying to find a way to making the motor slide back and fort...

Got my motor mounts welded up...little bit of Kubrick (take it off and do it again over and over) and a little bit of Hitchcock (eh close enough). It's got some wobble to it but the mount is pretty narrow and the motor is tall and top heavy. There's a bunch of threaded mounting points around the PTO...I'm going to make another heavy mount that'll bolt up there and brace against the frame of the buggy over the slots I had previously used for chain adjustment with the CBR engine. That should handle all the side to side stability and it'll give me a mounting point for an alternator.

One more buggy update...I wanted to get it rolling today but failed, oh well, very close! Still going to have to make a bracket to support the muffler. It's not exactly what I had in mind but it'll work for now...materials to get what I wanted weren't readily available locally, a revised version will happen in the future.

The buggy moved under its own power yesterday. The clutch definitely gets all caddywhompus under speed and the springs are absolutely not very well rated for the buggy. It'll require a lot of tuning the clutch to get it sorted out. Smokes the belt pretty good getting going in anything higher than 3rd gear, 2nd gear gets me 25mph or so, first gear climbs over stuff without a lot of trouble. Definitely not fast but it putts around. The engine runs CRAZY lean...I've just ordered a 40mm CV carburetor to help get some tuning done on that front. I know the norm is usually a 34mm (ish) flat slide but I don't think flat slide characteristics are going to be the best for what I do. I'll post a video later today.

First test drive...that I was willing to record, anyway :D. Still a huge punch list of to-do's but it's getting quite close to what I expected it to be!

Nice progress! I've considered doing something like this on one of my buggies, instead of the SR250 bike engine. But there's just something satisfying about having a 5 speed, sequential shift manual transmission on it. But you are tempting me...

Found a better clutch! Very nice, heavy duty rig meant for a 100hp engine! It even comes attached to the engine! After a little tinkering the damn engine fired up nicely. I'm borderline considering pulling the 670 out and sticking this Arctic Cat 580 twin in...if only you could make 2-strokes not so damned loud!

New clutches! Obviously I have to reset all the spacing, but I expect this to work much better than the cheap clutch I was running prior.

Getting the clutches aligned and in proper order really wasn't as big a hassle as I expected...following a little bit from K-Fab's guide and winging a few bits all it took was three cuttoff wheels, a 2lb sledge hammer, a welder, and four hours of swearing. Kind of just a teeny bit miffed because I went through the effort to put it together and now I have to take it apart because I forgot about the springs and weights that go in the drive clutch...stock it won't even engage inside the Predator's operating range haha

lol "done" like this isn't engine swap #3 haha

I think I'll like it but honestly as soon as this one's "done" I'm going to be looking to trade it for a couple of 150's. My kids are old enough to drive their own now :D

Definitely have to have the weights, too! Driven side is completely unloaded. I'll go around and try to find brass bushings tomorrow.

I know this may be too late, but I just stumbled across this video.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L0nEYl3 ... t&index=11

The guy takes a harbor freight engine, runs a CVT on it, then connects the output of the CVT to a manual car transmission. This way, he gets a CVT with 5 forward gears and reverse.

By running the CVT before the transmission, the CVT runs at its ideal RPM range instead of a wildly variable RPM range after a transmission.

Later, he makes a brilliant linkage setup to shift (Episode 21) and uses a hand brake on the CVT to prevent grinding gears. I don't entirely understand that part.
