I have punisher 150 gy6 with forward and reverse gears . The only way to shift is to turn it off and as soon as it turns off it pops into gear . Does anyone have any idea on whats the cause and what i need to do to fix it?

Your engine rev to high at idle. The clutch engage just enough to put pressure on your gears and this is why you can't shift. When you turn the engine off, the clutch disengage and you can shift.

Did you recently replace the belt and not set the roller weights properly in the variator?

Thanks guys that was the issue but now ...when im driving it as i pick up speed the seems to be what i would call a grinding of a gear and then it continues like normal. It seems that at a certain speed as its accelerating a tooth becomes misaligned and catches. Any ideas???
