I made a video on How To wire a 150 cc machine. This is a question that comes back really often and is sometimes hard to explain by text only.

I went basic to make sure everyone will be able to follow along. I also make my plan with the actual components instead of the diagram that sometimes some people have a hard time following.

I went through many plans, and all of them are different, and some are actually not accurate. The plan I made is the one I use, and it works in the end.

If you have any questions, let me know.

If you have a minute, let me know what you think about the video and what should be better.

hi maxp.
great video easy to understand.

just a query to clear a point up for me and other users.

all posts relating to telling if a cdi unit is ac or dc seem to go by how it is wired
if there isn't enough wiring to do this or none at all how else can we tell.

im currently trying to fix a hammerhead 150 for a friend.
I wired it as in your video for dc but no joy and im not sure if it should be ac..

I have an 8 poll stator with 3 wire connecter and blue/white trigger wire and red/black ac power, can this be used for both ac/dc or only ac
thanks for listening and look forward to your reply

The red/black is AC power for AC powered CDI's. You cannot run AC in to a DC or vise versa without damaging it. If you already have all the wiring run for a DC CDI, get one from Max. Right now you have no idea if the CDI is blown or there are other problems and this will at least eliminate another unknown.

Everything PGH said is true.

If you check, in the video, I show the black and red wire and say it's not in use, this is the one you would use for the AC CDI. If something is connect to the black red wire, good chance you have an AC CDI.

Most 150 engine are DC CDI, BUT some came with AC CDI. In the video, I show, when you turn the key to accessories, you will have power to the CDI, if you don't you have an AC CDI. All that is true, as long as the wiring has never been change.

Bottom line, if you are fixing the machine, as PGH said, buying a new DC CDI would avoid any complication as you will have a working CDI.

Electrical problems are hard to fix.

Yes it can run both, DC or AC. In your case, you should keep it simple and do it the way it was before. If you did have a DC, you should keep it DC.

But yes any parts could be change as long as you know what you do and can adapt them to your machine.
