I need some help here. Bought a new Raptor 250cc a couple of months ago. When I went to use it today, Reverse works but not forward. What should I be looking for??

I was actually going to bring it into my garage to change the Oil for the first time.

One other item I am having trouble with is that the Gas cap leaks. The cap seems to screw on correctly, but it just does not seal. Should there be a gasket/seal on the cap? I have clled tech support at Awesome Buggy twice in the last 4 weeks regarding the gasket, but noone has returned my calls.

Thank you for your time.

Daryl

I have an update regarding the loss of shifting.
I broght the Go-kart into the garage and put heater on in the garage. (FYI I am in Minnesota, we got about 16" of snow today and it is still coming down as I type)

After about 2 hours I tried starting the machine and shifting.
It seemed to work very well. I drove about 3 feet forward and then 3 feet backwards. I repeated this about 5 times.

I then took it outside in the new snow and drove arround (backing up every now and then) for about 8 minutes.

Then all of a sudden it stopped shifting into nuetral or forward it stayed stuck in reverse (although the shift lever was in forward or nuetral). I jumped off to look at the shifting linkage on the transmission. As I move the lever throught the gears the transsmission lever stayed in the reverse position. Then all by itself it slowly shifted into forward. I push it back into reverse as I did so the tranny shifted into reverse. But when I shifted into nuetral then forward, once again paused for about 5 or 6 seconds then slowly the tranny shifted into forward.

(FYI THe drivers shifting lever seams to move very smoothly - easily, I'm not forcing it at all)

It almost seemed link the torsion spring on the tranny shifting lever was not strong enough?

What would be causing this?

Thank again for your time.

Daryl

The reverse lever spring is very weak on these Raptors- I drilled a hole in the frame and attached a spring from the lever to the frame to help pull the lever back. This has fixed this problem completely for me. Also, the gas cap does not have a gasket- It should seal properly. Is it leaking through the vent hole or around the cap itself? If the vent hole is leaking then the bearing in the cap is not functioning correctly.

Thanks for the note on the spring. I have not looked at it too closely, I wonder if I could spec a new spring with a little greater spring rate to solve this issue.? Would I be creating a new problem by installing a stronger spring?

Any help would be much appreciated.

As far as the gas cap leak it appears to be leaking through the threads of the cap not through the vent.

Thanks

Daryl

Hey Daryl,
The spring that is mounted on the reverse lever from the factory is a round spring- it seems to be pretty strong, but where it's placed doesn't allow it to have enough torque to pull the lever back. You might be able to modifiy it, but I think it would be much stronger by adding the second spring from the lever to the frame.
The gas cap you have must be bad if its leaking around the threads- I would order another one.
Adam

On the Gas cap I have a tube coming out on top of it that has a black plastic device on the end. Is that the vlalve you were talking about?

Thanks

No, there is a ballbearing inside the cap, take the
cap off and look inside it ,there should be some screws
take them out and the ballbearing is behind there.
