Hi!! First post here. Good info. on this website. Very Happy My neighbor bought a Talon 150 dlxII buggy about 2 months ago and seemed to run really good. Now when you first start buggy and takeoff it runs strong for maybe 2 minutes and then acts like a someone throws a switch and the motor sound changes and the buggy simply cruises at moderate speed with little power. If you let up on gas and slow a little, and then hit it again it runs strong again for a few seconds and again goes into moderate govenor speed Crying or Very sad . I took apart carb completly and it was spotless inside , jets clean fuel flow great. (new filter installed just in case) diaphrams in cv carb seem to be intact. Seemed at first to be a fuel starve issue at inlet. but ther is no bog when it happens, no popping or backfiring, simply goes into some sort of flat feeling until you slow/ stop and then start over again. Buggy runs fine for a few seconds and repeats bad attitude Sad . Runs fine other than this flat feeling. Usual speed is around 30+, When this happens you only ever get around 20, but engine is running smooth. Low speed operation seems fine with good torque and engine thumps right along. Hope this makes sense, thanks in advance for any help! Very Happy

may be check these things.

1. check the air filter box and the hose that runs behind the seat for any paper or plastic wraps. the hose hehind the seat has a nylon bag and a small foam filter there.

2. above the muffler there is a black box, that is where the ignition controls are, there are 2 screws in the top, check for any loose wires.

3. check the spark plug and wire.

4. check the parking brake at the caliper on the rear axle. with the park brake on see if the buggy moves, it should only move a little bit. I think on the glx there is a bolt on trhe caliper to adjust the pads.

5. when the carb was apart did the needle and seat move up and down freely and was the needle going into the seat, also check the float level
mave have to call carter or down load the service manual from there web site. these are good buggys and alot of fun.

can anybody else think of anything.

Hello and Welcome to Buggynews G-Man. The only other thing I can think of is the muffler being cloged. My thinking behind this is I had a guy bring his buggy to me to fix cause it would not run right it would bog down. And guess what the muffler was clogged the guts had broke and covered the outlet. You might want to check that, it is a long shot but something to take a look at. Keep us posted on this issue

Welcome to BuggyNews G-Man. My guess is that the auto choke on the CV carb is not functioning properly. You can unplug the choke wires from the carb and see if it makes a difference in the way the buggy runs. Does it idle okay after it warms up?

I think John (Blister) is right on with the auto choke being the likely culprit.

However, I believe if you just unplug the auto choke connection, you will actually cause the choke the stay ON all the time.

Do a search on BuggyNews for MANUAL CHOKE and that should show you have to disable the auto choke and regain that lost performance.

Sorry for the misinformation on unplugging the choke. I do not have much experience with the CV carb. I removed the CV carb shortly after having the buggy and after experiencing many a problem with it. I replaced the CV carb with the TM24 carb and have no problems now with idling or running poorly. The CV carb has always been a mystery to me and will remain a mystery because I have no interest in understanding it. Very Happy

Welcome to buggynews G-Man!

Start the engine when it is cold, just let it idle and listen to the engine. After about 30 seconds to a minute(or so) you should here the rpm's drop. If you notice the rpm's go down, your auto choke is working. Check to make sure your fuel filter is going in the right direction, if it is in backwards you could starve your engine at higher speeds.

just re-jetted stock carb[132.5]. in the process took off choke assembly from side of carb..two screws i think..used small piece of thin gasket material and re-installed assembly[leaving small o rings on]. this by-passes all passages to seal carb and negates function of choke. if you do take the eletrical off, use same gaket material w/bracket [that used to hold ele. acuator] to keep dirt out in case you ever want to use choke agian. mine fired up instantly first try Very Happy

I have seen this same exact problem on a buggy. The fuel petcock could not supply enough fuel to keep the carb full. The petcock kept getting crap stuck in it. Take the line off and it would flow fuel to the inexperienced eye. Compare it to a good one and it was not flowing enough. Just my 2 cents.
