For all you still confused about how a variator works, go here.

And here is another on CVT tuning.

Also, did you know you can mix variator weights? Go here to see how.

And here is a video of a working CVT.

You can, however, only use three rollers, or use three of one size and three of another
This I will be playing with....
great find

I don't think I would only use three rollers. This may cause some problems. Possibly uneven rollout. I am going to mess around with 3 of one weight and 3 of another. One of those links show you how to graph your results to find the sweet spot.

i notice that the it said to trim the spacer 1/16 in the variator for better top speed, has anyone tried that yet? i like to know how much top speed are we talking about, also what would that do to the low end torque?

Which link did you read that in?
Nevermind, I found it in the third link. That is very interesting. You would have to be careful not to cut too much off. They say 1/16". That might actually give you a couple more mile and hour. It would be like one more gear. I also wonder if anyone has experimented with this? You might actually lose a little off the low end due to the belt starting higher up on the pulley.

You most likely have 13 grammers in there. You can do just weights, yes. You will notice more low end acceleration and climbing ability.
