Hi all, My crossfire 150R is using about 1/2 Quart oil every 5 miles, no leaks, but does smoke, not excessive, the buggys behind me state they see a small amount of smoke, but not all the time. but I really have to watch the oil level. and right now is just the start of our riding season. this Buggy has only about 20 hours on it !! on the goodside, I don't have to change oil, am using 10-30 castrol ,carry 2 qts all the time. I know its probably the rings, but isn't that alot to get by the rings ?? any Ideas
Am in the process of buying another Buggy tommorrow or the next day ,but if I can get this one repaired am going to keep it for my wife, as she as wanted one anyway. Thanks for reading

You're going to need to do a compression test to see if the rings & valves are sealing well. If your compression is bad then follow-up with a leakdown test to determine where the leak is.

Maybe try running a thicker oil. 15W40 might last longer. Don't use synthetic.

i use 10-40 lucas oil. its good stuff. and yes if the rings are wore and they start getting oil past them, it will smoke that much. and if you ride it more it will get worse. check the plug first, if it relly black its probally the rings, and if you smell the smoke and it smells like burnt oil (if you know what that smells like) its defintley the rings

I should elaborate on my suggestions. 20 hours isn't much time on a tough little GY6 and the rings should definitely NOT be worn out already. Unless your air filter disconnected from the carb. Running synthetic before the engine is broken in & can interfere with the rings wearing in to the cylinders correctly. Any chance there's some warranty left?

Thanks for all the replies and help, well I was pretty sure it was the rings, guess I was just hoping for someone to say, I know what that is ,just turn this or that screw, in real life thats too good to be true, Hee Hee !!! I just bought another crossfire R today, never been ridden ,just sat in this guys garage for a long time, $1100 but not running, gas was never in the Tank, as he stated, will try to start tomorrow, looks Brand new. the oil burner is down on the Desert, guess I will bring it home and try to find someone to put rings in it, or a new engine. we go out shooting a lot,and just love these Buggys, my wife will now have her own ,when we get the oilburner repaired so we can carry more "STUFF". Ageekwithabuggy, probably live about ten miles from you in sun city.( guy, ) no warranty, 05,no syn. oil. as far as I know the filter was never disconnected ,except to change filters, which I did change every few hours as we ride in a very dusty area, and did put filter oil on every time, usually too much ,as it would bogg down the fist few hundred feet after the change then run real good . Thanks again ALL

Typically blue smoke is caused by oil being burned in the combustion chamber ie. bad ring. Is your smoke blue or blueish?
