BIGE (Eric) at McDonough Powersports came up with a DC triggered higher performance CDI - ready to plug and chug for those of us with that kind of ignition system.

We have an American Sportworks 7150, other buggies with a similar DC triggered CDI are the Twister Hammerhead GT200 and the American Sportworks 6150. Some late model GT150's might have this DC triggered CDI also, you can tell if your black / red stripe single wire with a plastic shroud from the stator is not hooked up. Smile

I was getting ready to rewire the 7150 for a more traditional AC triggered no-rev limit CDI upgrade, because the 7150 just seemed to hit a wall at top speed. In fact, because the kart has a FNR transmission, we could stick it in N and rev it until it stopped. (we have a tach). It wouldn't rev past 8000 / 8100.

After installing the CDI from BIGE - whee! It really did the job. We have to lift off the gas when test revving in N, and our tach has recording a maximum RPM now of 9800. During the long back straight of our rough field test, we picked up almost 3 mph. Actual speed doesn't matter so much, as it would be much faster on the road.

Overall, it seemed to have a bit more punch, more acceleration, and higher top speed. I recommend the upgrade, especially if you've already done all the other things.

Here are our current mods, if that makes a difference:

2.5" UNI on a long straight shot intake
127.5 jet
larger aluminum intake for the 24mm carb
10g rollers
prodigy teflon 115mm variator
yellow clutch spring
hotter orange bando coil
iridium plug
36 tooth axle gear instead of the stock 32
Twister performance exhaust, drilled quite a bit

An honest-to-goodness bolt-on major upgrade! Good find!

Just bought this CDI from BIGE. My wiring diagram was off from the actual wiring for the CDI. It appears that I have a DC CDI as my Black/Red wire from the Stator is just zip tied to the other wires and not hooked up.

Oh well, hopefully I get the same results as the one I was looking to install from Buggydepot.
