Alright! So, a quick update for those of you who didn't see my other post: Bought a beat down 150cc hammerhead. So far, I have put on custom exhaust, intake, new 9g rollers, new cvt belt, yellow clutch spring, carb jet on the way, and custom flat black paint job for more HP haha.
I took the shocks off to paint it and was pushing it on an almost flat surface an one of the ball joints broke ($35 each plus shipping)! Another needed replacement as well, and I decided that the ball joints just plain suck. Cheap design + cheap cast ball joints = one painful wreck in the future at Ocotillo Wells! So, I decided to mount it all on heims.
Here is my total cost so far:
Yamaha blaster shocks: $30 shipped
Heims: $32 shipped
Misalignment spacers= $30 shipped
Tabs: $17 (way to high, but what can you do
Bolts: less than $10 going to buy tomorrow
Here is my current setup with one assembled:
The plan: Vertically mounted heimed front end. Kind of like a trucks vertically mounted uniballs, but cheaper and just a better setup. Arms will barely need any modification, and spindle will get tabs mounted on. This is going to be a strong setup! If my back is good, it all happens tomorrow!
No one has used the term sledgehammer yet have they? I'm trademarking it. _________________ To live is Christ, to die is gain.

Dan's is a good place... I bought a bunch of tabs that I was going to use for my A-Arm rebuild... I went another path, but decided to keep the tabs due to their affordable cost.
Looks like a great plan you have there. _________________ Chris Dierkens

I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO WHAT YOU'RE DOING THERE.
*MORE PICS WHEN YOU CAN.
I'M TRYING TO KEEP MY BUGGY RUNNING & ALWAYS HAVE SOMETHING BREAKING OR GOING BAD.
THE DAY NEEDS TO COME TO DO SOME DIFFERENT MODS TO IT, INSTEAD OF JUST GETTING THE SAME OL' PARTS ... WHICH ARE NOT VERY STRONG. IMO
* I'M NOT EXTREMELY MECHANICALLY INCLINED.
BUT, WITH SOME HELP FROM A FRIEND OR TWO ... I MIGHT START TRYING SOME BETTER IDEAS.
"BIG KID" HAS IT GOING ON WITH HIS BUGGY.
* I HAVE A CHARGER 250CC.
I JUST BROKE THE BOTTOM BALL JOINT IN MY SPINDLE A COUPLE OF NIGHTS AGO.
THAT COULD HAVE BEEN A BAD WRECK IF IT WENT DOWN A BIT DIFFERENTLY.
"BIGE" HAS HELPED ME WITH A FEW PARTS & ASSISTANCE ON HOW-TO'S.
THANX BIGE.

Phhheeww long time no update, well I got it done. I decided to just do the uppers with heims for now, and when on of the lower ball-joints go out I will do the lowers as well. Here is how I did it:
1. I assembled the heims with the tabs, then took a drill bit and slightly drilled out the upper arm (it wasn't quite wide enough plus it wasn't round it was square.
2. I cut out the front ball joints. Does anyone know the right way to get them off? Anyways, I needed the whole housing off because the heims displace more area then they did. I them prepped the metal for welding.
3. I then cut two little pieces of metal to mount the tabs onto, I didn't have a wider metal but I don't think it will make a difference anyways.

4. Made sure everything lined up and tried to cycle the suspension a little bit. I also taped off the heims so they would not get damaged by the flying slag that could put some marks in them.
5. I welded it all together! I did this slowly, since the heims is right there, I had a cup of water and I kept dumping it on the metal to keep it from getting to hot and damaging the heim.
I think I might end up adding some gussets to give it some more strength, but it should be OK this way anyways.
6. I added the blaster shocks. I had to cut all the tabs and put new tabs on this bad boy top and bottom. I though it would be easier. but oh well. These shocks are like an inch longer (at least) then the stock shocks, so getting them to fit wasn't real easy. The stock shocks were so stiff! This is such a better shock, and adjustable too.
Thats about it! First day of testing will be today! _________________ To live is Christ, to die is gain.
