I like most of the higher end carts and buggys have dual bright halagen head lights. But I live in West Virginia a state known for its mountains,so our trails can be steep twisty windy and very muddy, some with steep drop offs and can be tough to navigate even in bright daylight.I don't run at night for fear of running off the trail or down a steep drop off by mistake.I don't know how you feel about night running, maybe you live in a state with flatter ground and you are ok with it,I'd rather be safe than sorry. mancoman

We have done numerous night rides . they are loads of fun. Even familar trails will take on a totaly new look at night. There are several do's and don'ts if you consider trying a night ride.

1- Don't/never go by yourself. always have partner or a group to go with you.

2- Do know the trail you plan to use! very important! run it in daylight before hand and note possible trouble spots. Trails look totaly different at night. it's surprisingly easy to get lost. if we are at a large ATV park, we bribe a park emplyee with a little cash to ride along and act as guide. Most are happy to join in on the rolling party.

3- Don't be in a hurry! take your time, enjoy the ride. Be aware that obsticles are hidden at night . the poteintial for getting stuck or striking a tree, stump, rock, etc is componded three fold. Under the lights, objects take on a 2 diminsional look and it is very easy to miss judge size or distance.

4- Do make frequent stops/breaks to enjoy the solitude. The forest at night without light and noise pollution can be a whole new world. we have carried a telescope along to check out the stars. The night sky without light pollutuion is breathtaking.

Night rides take a little more planinng and fore thought but they are worth it. At our meets , a night ride is always anticipated.

One of the most important things to remember about night riding is to NOT DRIVE DRUNK!!!

Here in Oregon, there was an accident with several fatalities on the dunes a little over a week ago in a collision between 2 sand rails head on at a very high rate of speed.

Alcohol is (was) suspected as a factor in at least one of the drivers.

Preventable tragedies are exactly that: preventable.

Excellent points, ckau!

MOst importnat thing is light that buggy up. You wanna be seen, not just be able to see. Out west we share the desert with all of the big toys--jeeps, sand rails, rock crawlers and monster trucks. They all ride at night and they all go fast. Get a lighted whip. If your buggy can handle it, put two more light on the top of your roll cage. Oftentimes these are the first things someone will see coming up over the other side of a hill at night. We just bought a cool LED light that does 8 different programs, including a police style rotating pattern. It runs on batteries and doesn't require any hookup. You just put it on top of the buggy and it alerts everyone to your presence. It is very bright.
