I need to regear my 150s. Does anyone know what sprockets and/or gears fit the Dazons?
Right now they have 16 tooth upper sprocket and 31 tooth axle sprockets. I don't know what gears they have in the tranny.
I remember seeing posts on replacing gears on the GY6 engines but I don't remember seeing anyone re-gearing or re-sprocketing a Dazon. (then again, I haven't been on here much for a while.)
I also remember some discussion about replacing the upper sprocket with a smaller one on the Dazons - maybe along with a larger axle sprocket.

Parts links, prices, ideas....

Tim

Has yours got the double row chain? I can't remember anyone here regearing with a double row setup (mine has that too). But it does seem like I remember someone replacing only one of the axle sprockets with a larger one, then when he needed more power for steep climbs, he would run a single row chain from the engine to the larger axle sprocket, and when he wanted speed would run a shorter length chain from the engine to the smaller axle sprocket.
Almost like having your cake and eating it too!
I hope I'm right about that, and my mind is not playing tricks on me Laughing

If you have a Buggy Depot axle on a Yerf-Dog, you can run the setup described by Team913 since the sprocket mount can be shifted on spines. On any other axle you will get chain deflection when trying this.

If you have single roller chain, you can run the 39t axle sprocket. IfYou have a double roller chain, you double up two 39t sprockets or buy a double 37t sprocket. Since you have an external reverse, you are limited to the 16t transmission/engine sprocket. Non-reverse and internal reverse buggies can run a 13t sprocket.

I did it on my Dazon, highly recommend.

I ran a 39T twister chain and sprocket, cost 75-$80? can't remember, well worth it though. The heavier O-ring chain fits onto your stock double row sprocket.

re-gearing like this on my Dazon allowed me climb like a mountain goat while still maintaining an apprx. 45mph top speed with the stock 14g rollers. Best of both worlds so to speak. Re-gearing will allow you to lower your overall gearing for climbing without having to use light rollers which limit the range of the CVT (lower high speed).

Mine would climb any hill with enough traction. The stock 31T is way too high for these little engines to pull efficiently, which I think were originally spec'd for driving on the road in Europe.

good luck, it was kind of a pain to get on the axle though, but worth it.

Team913 - Yes, mine have the double chain.
Don't know about swapping chains around like that - sounds a little sketchy!
I'm really not concerned about needing top-end speed. My 20 acres is all woods with hills, creeks, and tight turns.

pghruby - do you have to use some kind of spacers between the sprockets if you double up? Where are those sprockets available?

Kell - did you double up the 39T like pghruby mentioned?
Is the heavier a replacement?
Did you have to replace the chain for more length?
Where did you get the parts?

Thanks,
Tim

Tim, Good questions here for us buggy guys with double sprockets and double row chain. I checked out your pic gallery and I like your buggys! I have found out these Dazons are hard to beat! I wish I had bought one to start with. With 20 acres of woods in Kentucky you must have some fairly steep hills to climb. I like the rear tires you are running. They look very aggressive for your type of terrain.
Glad to have you back here on BuggyNews Wink

Look at your mounting flange on your axle. If you can line up both sprockets with your chain, you just need to add some longer bolts and fender washers between the 39t sprockets to properly fit the chain. These sprockets are available from BigE on this forum or from BuggyDepot.com

Your sprocket seems to be centered on the mounting flange. If there is no way to get a sprocket on each side, I suggest going with the 37t double sprocket from BigE or converting to single roller chain and single 39t sprocket. The drive/engine sprocket will work with single or double roller chains.

I run 37 dbl tooth sprocket on my blade, makes a big diff.Got it from blade powersports. The only thing I didn't like about it was it weight is about 7#s so I machined about 3or so lbs off .That was about 3 yrs ago maybe they've changed.

No, the sprocket fits on the axle with no adapters, it lines up with the inside (closest to engine) sprocket on the top.

The chain is a 530 O-ring which is heavier than the stock chain which I think is a 520? No need to double a chain like the 530 since it is used on 125hp superbikes! The sprockets are the same for either size chain, that's why you can run the chain off of one of your sprockets. Just take your axle off, put the new sprocket and chain on, adjust and you are done.

Stock Twister chain and sprockets are already the proper length, at least on mine. Seems like the chain might have been a little long, seems like I had to take a spacer/washer out of the chain adjustment?, maybe, we aren't talking about whole lengths of chain though, since the engine/frames are nearly identical on a twister/dazon.

I think? I bought mine from Ray at Reliable Go-karts, he's on here somewhere.

good luck, you will definetly notice a difference in climbing,
Kell
