I recently discovered this forum via a google search in trying to figure out what is wrong with my Dazon 150 buggies. I have the double and single. They are both 2004s.
I acquired them from a family member about 2 years ago and haven't done much maintenance on them since. We ride them around our property throughout the year, but nothing taxing on them. Just a bumpy 2 acre yard.
Last summer, the double started running very poorly. It idles perfectly, but as soon as you give it any throttle, it would die immediately. A friend told me that it could be a dirty carb, and to check the jets and overall maintenance of the carb.
Last weekend, I took the carb off and cleaned it. After the cleaning, it runs a little better, but still not well enough to actually enjoy driving it. Engine misses, pops and doesn't get anywhere near top speed.
Our single buggy has been running well for the past 2 years, but this summer it started missing and popping and running similar to the double, although the single still runs well enough to get it up to pretty decent speeds.
I saw a previous post where the person indicated that an air screw adjustment fixed his engine running troubles. I just went out and looked at the buggy and can't figure out where the air screw might be.
More Info:
The double has a custom exhaust on it that was installed before I got it.
The single is 100% stock, apart from some headlight changes.
I don't know much about engine repair, but I can usually figure things out with the help of the Internet.
Wow.. have you ever come to the right place NM. Most of our 150's have the same issues from time to time.
I'd suggest checking the connections on the coil from your spark plug, and into the CDI in your electrical box first. Even a slightly bad connection can really effect performance.
A trouble spot on my buggy (150 Talon) was the intake manifold off the carb. The rubber elbow tends to crack at the bolt holes, letting in air. Spray a little carb cleaner on it while it's idling... if it revs up, then you have a cracked intake. Not a big deal... they're cheap, and easy to replace. (upgrade to alluminum, or buy a couple cheap ones to keep on hand.
Might also suggest adjusting your valves...and don't settle for stock performance. A few mods go a LONG way with these little 150's. (CVT mods, Air intake and Carb jetting are the big ones...very inexpensive and easy) Keep surfing Buggynews... you'll be amazed at the help you'll find.
PS...update your profile so we know where you're from, and what buggies you have. _________________ 05' Carter Talon GSX 150 2R

Thanks for the tips. I checked the connections on the coil from the spark plug like you suggested and sure enough, one of them was very loose. The 150 Single runs like a champ again.
I moved over to the Double and both connections appear to be snug, however, the thing won't start now. Not sure what's up with that, I just had it running a couple days ago. Here's a newbie question... Regarding the two coil connections, are they positive/negative, meaning, does it matter which wire connects to which side? Reason for my asking is that shortly after putting the Double away a few days ago, I was checking those connections and didn't take note when I disconnected the wires. One wire has a yellow stripe on it and the other is just black.
On the Single, both wires are just black, so I can't compare the two.
Also, another question. I need to get a new battery for the buggies, one is dead and won't take a charge, so I have to move my good battery between buggies at the moment.
Is there a store where you've found good deals on them? I went to the local Napa and they quoted me almost $70 for a new battery. Thinking that was outrageous, I opted to not get it at the time.
Thanks again... _________________ Dazon 150 Single - Stock

Gotta admit, I've been lucky with batteries, haven't replaced mine. I'm in Canada anyway, so couldn't really assist in finding a new one. I'm told Walmart might be an option. Anyone else?
As for the double not starting, I'd say electrical is still your issue. Mine did the same.. crank and crank but no go. Wiggled the wires a bit, and it started fine. Not sure of positive/negative on the CDI. Try cleaning the ignition/starter connections, and using a little dielectric grease to solidify the connection and keep out moisture.
I notice you have aftermarket exhaust and air filter. I'd suggest upgrading the main jet in your carb to one slightly larger to make it run a lot smoother (when you get it started) If you have better airflow in and out, you also need more fuel or your engine will run too lean. You can check richness by removing your spark plug after it's been running a while, and check the colour. Black is too rich, white is too lean. My guess is your double is running a bit lean right now with upgraded intake/exhaust but stock jetting. _________________ 05' Carter Talon GSX 150 2R

check and see if the yellow stripe wire goes back to the cdi the little square black box with all the wires.if it does then it goes on the green side of coil.

You guys are the best. I followed the wires into the cdi box, took the cover off, looked at all the wires and found one that had a loose connection. The wire from the coil with the stripe did go into the cdi box and it was already on the green side.
Not sure the disconnected wire was, it was a bright blue colored wire. I firmly plugged it back into where it went and hooked everything back up that I had disconnected and it started right up.
In fact, it runs great now. Does not miss or pop or show any signs like it did earlier. Because of how it was running previously, it never occurred to me that it could've been an electrical problem. Shows how much I know.
Aside from only having one good battery, both buggies are in good running order now. I checked at Walmart tonight and they do not carry the battery or anything even close. They recommended us to a local Bumper to Bumper store. We'll be going there tomorrow to see what they have for batteries.
Thanks for all the suggestions and help, this place is the greatest. I'll try to post some pictures of the buggies soon.
