Remember Tyler's Blade 70 buggy that caught on fire 3 days before the big rally in MO? Well I bought him a new buggy but I kept the burned one. It turns out that I used tubing for the fuel line that was not meant to be used for fuel. Gasoline melted the tubing and gas started pouring all over the hot header after riding. Fortunately, the kart was parked in the driveway and not in my barn. The buggy caught fire while we were inside eating lunch and was ablaze for probably 10 minutes before I discovered it. All of the electrical was destroyed.
I spoke with Stu at Blade and ordered a new CDI, Rectifier, Coil and solenoid. I also had to replace part of the stator. It was fried. I then tore the whole buggy down and repainted everything. I used Dupli-Color from Autozone. I first primed everything and then sprayed with Silver High Performance Wheel Coating. I then painted it with Dupli-Color Purple Anodizing Finish. The color came out great! I sorted through all the melted wiring harness and made new plugs to connect everything. I purchased a seat cover for $15 and sprayed the whole seat and inside of the seat cover with contact cement. I then stretched the seat cover over the seat. It's not perfect but definitely better than the burned seat and less expensive than having it re-upholstered. I wrapped the roll bars with pipe insulation and my wife is making new roll bar wraps with black nylon purchased from a fabric store. We also purchased some black canvas for the bimini top.
This kart is now for my daughter Kylie. I put a throttle limiter on the gas peddle. She drove it yesterday for the first time and did fantastic. I have to admit, it is a little nerve racking having two kids racing around the yard in two karts at the same time. Here are lots of pics of how the process went. I will post some video of Kylie driving it later.
looks good, how about a pic of the purple? that should look great _________________ Blade buggies,Carter buggy's, ams (manco) , joyner, parts for almost anything
