Has anyone figured out how to snorkel the 150's yet? I got my buggy ripped apart right now and am doing alot to it. Working on key ignition right now. looking to get a winch in the future after reading that forum.

A snorkel leading into an airbox should work and many 150 buggies come that way. I tried a couple times to add a snorkel directly to the carb, with the filter out at the end of it, with no success. It seems the pulsations of air into the carb are smoothed out or choked by a long hose--even a fairly large or smooth one. Without the proper pulses and velocity the carb can't atomize the fuel correctly. The airbox is needed to provide a large reservoir of air for the carb to draw from. It's not needed if the intake is short, like with the "redneck" intake mod.

I think someone was working on a dual stage intake but last i saw it was just in the idea stage.

The only benefit would be keeping the filter clean, nothing we do to these Gy6's gives us good power gains.

It looked great...but ran horrible. I ran through the full range of jets and it always ran lean. So I went back to the basic "redneck" setup. I think running a hose into an airbox with internal filter (from a junkyard, made from Tupperware, whatever) would work. A clear one would make maintenance easier.

Do you mean it always ran rich? Because if it always ran lean.. Your getting enough air but not enough fuel.

Without an air box between the carburetor and snorkel, air flow is disturbed and starves the engine of both fuel and air. No matter how you jet the carburetor, it will run lean at higher RPMs.

I tried the same on my Yerf with multiple hose lengths and diameters. I finally got to the point where I could get to half throttle without problems, but could not ever get it to run full speed. I never realized the snorkel was the problem, until Mark helped me on Yerfer.net.

does your stock airbox have a hose coming out of it? My carter did so I just made it a bit longer and put a U shaped end on it and ran it to the top of the cage. The u shaped bend was off a stock Blade I beleive. I finally removed it and installed a redkneck intake since I spend little time in the deep mud.

No the Yerf that the OP is looking to mod comes with an airbox with a tiny square filter installed and no snorkel on the inlet--just a hole. You have to take the box apart just to check the filter. Not very convenient. If it used a better filter I would recommend attaching a hose to the box but all in all I think it's best to just toss the whole assembly.

A home-made airbox could be as simple as a small lidded coffee can with 2 flanges screwed to the bottom. One facing in that a K&N or Uni would clamp to and one facing out that would get attached to the carb by a short piece of hose or a rubber connector from the plumbing department. There are all shapes & sizes of containers in the kitchen department of your local department store that could work.

And yes mine was lean with all jet sizes to way beyond reason. I think I stopped at .125"
Shocked
