Ok I think I have a plan for my suspension change. This is a 150 dazon raider classic with the endro package ( head lights, working taillights, blinkers, side mirrors etc. )

This is the stock setup.

and this is my new plan.
Red is the new bracing, and the Yellow is the new shock location.

I am going to take the dog leg completely off and use that bolt hole to bolt on a piece of flat steel. then I am going to make some brackets with fish mouths to weld to the frame (after i move the battery). the back of the fish will have a bolt hole to bolt the steel too also. This way you can still remove the motor mount frame to get the engine out.

I think this should work pretty good. Just have to check for the clearance needed to turn the shocks up like this.

I will need to make some taller shock mounts or longer shocks. Just want to make sure it works first before I buy the new shocks.

Thanks for any input.

Nick

First way do you want to change it? Second I think shock top has to more towards the front of kart because the arc (swing )of the swing arm.Unless I'm not looking at it right.

the stock shock position as it is now, is a good compromise between function and convenient location points. if you need to take the hard hits ,the shock should be at a right angle to the lower mount point when the swing arm is at full compression to take advantage of a full stroke and to avoid strain on the shock it's self. the more the shock lays over towards the front, the smoother the ride but the least effectiveness of shock dampening and more stress on the shock mounts. According to your plan, it seems the shock can over rotate at the lower mount and collapse at full compression. There is a whole lot of science and geometry to this shock thing . do some research on off road suspinsion design before you commit yourself to anything

to me this looks like a worse angle to be using a shock almost vertical

The reason I want to move stuff around is the motor floats in the frame on the dog legs. When you weight the cart with two people or accelerate in reverse it makes the chain slip on the drive sprocket.

Ok the little mock up in paint brush is not the final placement. I just did it to use for visual for discussion on the forums.

I can weld up about anything I want, so changing the frame is not a problem. And I would actually move the shock location back on the swing arm. to use the dog leg mount.

Any one know some websites that show the formulas to build suspensions etc.?

Another thing I run with a 36 tooth spocket and double chain that would also make diff in skipping of the chain.

If you're chain is slipping I'd reccomend finding out what is causing it and fixing before any other mods. I have the same setup with my twister and I've had over 500lbs in it before (me at 230 and a buddy of mine at about 280) and had no problems with the chain.
