Just acquired a Tomberlin Crossfire 150R, less than 2 years old. Great machine overall; however: When I go down the road, I get a whistle which gets more intense the faster I go. Almost sounds like I'm riding a giant hair dryer! Is it wind noise blowing thru the 'cage, or is it coming from the engine / trans? Hard to tell, but super annoying. Anyone else come across this?
Thanks.

congrads on the purchase. My wifes does that. hers started when I replaced the rollers, main spring and clutch springs. I also replaced the fan part of the variator. does it sound like its coming from the cvt vent?

Quite possible. As far as I know, the internal goodies are stock - for now! I guess I need to put it on stands and fire it up. If it is the fan, what's the solution? Would a piece of foam deaden the sound, or do I run the risk of it getting sucked in?

Thanks for the welcome! Found my whistle source. Apparently, a rock got into the plastic fan housing and made it's own exit in the form of a new hole! Patched it; now she's a thousand times better.

Any recommended (proven) performance mods? I've read on here about re-jetting the carb and gutting the muffler, as well as rollers and clutch spring. All well within my abilities; just not sure which jets or weights to go with.

I added the plywood "roof" (keep the sun off my head) rear view mirror (handy) and extra lights (separate switch). I plan to go with smoked Plexiglass and either dual batteries or a larger single.

Welcome Flip! Keep surfing this forum for mods... and do not... I repeat... do not... keep your machine stock. Razz It's too cheap and easy to NOT do.

Start with CVT changes, especially variator rollers/sliders and clutch. Lighter rollers=more torque.... too light and you'll lose speed. You can add to that by changing the main spring behind your clutch, or shimming it a little to make it stiffer. You'll be really impressed with these easy changes for a starting point. After that, you're addicted, and there's no escape. Trust us.

Thanx Mike and Eric. As for the "Addiction", I used to mess with full-size Chevy Blazers (40-inch tires and up!) years ago, and yes, it does not stop with JUST one mod! The buggy is easier to store and get home when something breaks!

On that note; got to looking, and realized there's no pull start. Does anyone make a kit as a back-up if you loose your starter or battery?

Guess it's time to go shopping. Twisted Evil
