I've been having a problem with my gy6, I replaced the belt on it after the old one snapped, but now it doesnt even have power in foward. If I put it in reverse it goes good, but foward has little to no power at all and also stalls when I give it gas. Also it idles so low and really shakes pretty bad.
I reajusted the valves which are pretty new. I also cleaned out the air filter and gas lines. Still no luck. I dont know if it would be the clutch or what? If anyone has some tips on this I would really apreciate it!

When the belt breaks on these the rollers in the variator (back half of the front pulley) sometimes come out of their ramps or get turned sideways causing the CVT to stick in a higher gear. This sounds like what happened in your case. You'll need to open the CVT back up and make sure the rollers are oriented in the variator correctly. Also check them for flat spots and replace them if they are worn. This would be a great opportunity to install some lighter weight rollers for better low end power.

Hey man! Thanks for the reply, I really apreciate it. It was running great before the belt broke so I figured it was probably something to do with the belt breaking, I hope thats all it is anyways cause that sounds pretty simple. I'll be checkin into the lighter weight rollers I think. Thanks again for the info, guess I got more work to do.

Oh also!! I was wondering if them rollers would have anything to do with the buggy wanting to move while idling, it's worse now after I replaced the belt. I'll fire it up and it just wants to take off and roll down the road. It always did that a little bit but it seems worse now.

If the rollers are turned and the belt is stuck in a higher gear it will cause the clutch to start to engage causing the symptoms you are describing.

I have seen the clutch arm springs get weak and cause the arms to move out sooner than they should.
also if it idled to high that might cause the clutch arms to engauge _________________ Blade buggies,Carter buggy's, ams (manco) , joyner, parts for almost anything

You also need to check the clutch pulley halves. Many times the cords from the belt will get wound up between the clutch halves and keep them from moving, you will need to manually spread the pully halves while inspecting for belt strands. If for instance the clutch halves are not in the rest position the belt will be down on the pully and this will also cause the kart to move at idle and if the halves cannot move apart when the rpm's rise due to binding this too will cause problems. When ever you brake a belt unless its a clean break you should always completely pull the variator and clutch to inspect for any debris left behind from the belt and clean the cover paying close attention to the air path. Some times the rear of the cover will be clogged with belt matter and the new belt will not cool properly due to lack of circulation of air for cooling. Speaking of the CVT, does anyone have any experience in running a gy6 with the CVT cover off? I know that it would get the variator and clutch very dusty, I just don't know if that would hurt much.
Thanks in advance. _________________ 2008 Mini Viper 800

There was a buggy owner that cracked his case while running the engine without the CVT cover. Most people feel that the cover adds additional strength to the rear of CVT. _________________ 08 Joyner SandViper 250
