Well after reading and searching on the web, I had to take a couple of steps back and re evaluate what the purpose of this buggy is for.
1) It will be driven 75% of the time by my girlfriend and her daughter.
2) It will see mostly trail and two track use.
3) It has to stay as close to 60" as possible
4) it has to be a CVT, not a manual trans.

I got carried away, I started looking at turboed 650's and 800 cc buggies which just would not work for us, it would work for me but I'm only going to be driving the buggy when I'm not on my dirtbike, or one or two times that I go to the sand dunes.

I think the two buggies that are going to work for my family is either a Carter GTR300 or a Joyner 250 . I prefer the looks of the Joyner but the Carter might work out better for us. It's going to be a tough decision. It might just have to be price and availability that makes the decision.

Now of course I'm going to have to mod the thing...

I would throw the hammerhead into one of the top options as well. I don't think any company sells as many biggies as hammerhead so parts are most plentiful. Although all the biggies you mentioned are quality and you should not have too many problems getting parts.

The HH400 is what sent me on this quest for a buggy.
In the little town where my cottage is at they are running around everywhere. There is a dealer there.
I was sort of steered clear of them due to something going on with the factories and parts issues. Plus the price I was quoted on the Tiburon was almost as much as a new Joyner 650.

Shrug I'm very happy with my machine although I did bargain on the price the same I would on a car. Sometimes a local dealer is a big selling option as well.. If you need warranty you have a place to go to be taken care of.

carter, hammerhead and joyner sell more buggy' s than anyone, parts for these are not a problem, the next top seller is kinoad, parts for them can be tricky sometimes but for the most part interchangeablity is good.

try and find a dealer close to you so you can look, sit, and drive it. then call them and order a small part to see if they have it

The Hammerhead 250s don't have the parts issues that the HH400 supposedly has. There are all kinds of places to get parts for the HH250SS. A good place to get a look at the HH250SS would be at www.menintools.com.

Lots of photos there.

from what i understand, the hh400 will not be sold anymore. i've got one of the last two, i was told. BUT, the hh500 will be out soon. and the dazon's 450 will be out soon along with the 1100, which is out now. all of these are excellent machines.

cwarner,
what was it that made you rule out the Phoenix 300?

RodeoDuck,
Is there any info out there on the HH500 or the Dazon 450 you mentioned?

If I pull the trigger now (I've found a couple used buggies that I like) I just don't think the Phoenix 300 has enough time out in service. If i do wait til spring , and they have enough of them out there to get some good feedback it will be back on the list.
I like the price, it looks good, and seems like it's got the power.
