<  Off Road Go Kart & Mini Buggy Discussion  ~  Have been away for a while. Whats new?

Have not been on the site in a while. Work and family issues have kept my computer play time to a minimum. What has been going on in the buggy scene?

Hey Ray... welcome back, I'm a newby working my way up to BuggyNews Addict like you... wondering about the tag in your signature. What do you mean by drilled and shimmed slide? I read about cutting half a coil off the spring in my carb for a little quicker slide opening... is that it? Results?

Mike,
Welcome to the buggy scene.
The drilled part is the vent holes in the slide that control the quickness of the slide opening. Some people cut the spring but I have seen that it can be inconsistant at times. I just drill the holes out and leave the spring alone. I cannot remember if it was 5/32" or 7/32" that I drilled it out to.
The shimming is when you place a shim under the main needle where it goes through the slide to pull the needle out of the jet further faster giving more fuel at a lower throttle opening. I did go .027" on the shim. Anywhere from .025" to .030" will work. These moods help with throttle response.
