I know technically it's just a brush guard, but I am thankful Carter built that cage as strong as they did on this GTR after yesterday at Gorman. I gotta tell the whole story tho...

We got tired of sitting around not able to use the buggy because of the desert heat, so this was a mild weekend and we decided to head out to Gorman for a little day trip yesterday. My son's friend was with us, and he has a tendency to be somewhat reckless in everything he does.....see where this is going?

Well ,the wife and I took the GTR out for a ride and the trail kept getting narrower. Of course I'm an idiot and kept going until the front tire wedged and broke it's seal....we were flat in 10 seconds. So we got that taken care of and I had my kid's friend drive me out so I could teach him buggy safety. He did pretty good, seemed timid enough to respect the machine and that was my mistake...

The two boys decide to take the buggy out onto a flat area and do some donuts. MY kid knows how to safely do this without flipping the buggy, but then my wife insists on letting the other kid drive. First he starts cutting off other riders( which I didn't know till after), then I watch in horror as he punches it running about the length of a football field and he's hitting 40 easy......when he cuts the wheels sharply to the left and made my heart stop.....over they went in a grand cloud of dirt...of course the front tire spun right off the rim and the dender is busted, but the cage did it's job and two shaken boys climbed out of a buggy to find a madman ready to kill them....me. The cage did it's job and neither was hurt....in fact the cage only had a few scratches on it....and yes, they were wearing helmets..

And....that's the last time we take that kid, who I really do like a lot, offroading again. I am not going to be the one to have to call someone's parents.....

Wow its a good thing you had it for sure...

First time my brother rolled his buggy i thought the cage was fine too until i tried to fill up the gas and realized the cage had pushed back 6 inches obstructing my filler cap.

You got real lucky if it infact didnt squish at all. Ours looked cosmetically fine but in fact had pushed back a bit.
Im sure the 2 kids must have weighed more then my brother he is probably 180 and it couldnt even take that impact.

Friends should NEVER EVER drive these buggies, only ride. Back about maybe three years ago I was driving my blade around with my friend. Well when it was his turn to drive he took it down my driveway. We were speeding along at about 32 when all of a sudden he cranks the wheel left. We drifted sideways for about 5 feet on the grass but when the wheels caught all heck broke loose. We rolled about three or four times... when it was all said and done all that was damaged was the roll cage. Evil or Very Mad

Multiple lessons learned. I bet you never thought that kid would teach you anything. Kinda funny how that works out.

Well, from the way it looked, I think the wide rear tires acted as a damper and dramatically slowed the flip. At least i tlooked that way. My theory is that it might not have flipped had the front tire not ripped off the rim from the sideways pressure. We were all very, very lucky. What's funny is had I been 16, the year 1987 and the buggy a Honda Odyssey........flipping it would have been the goal!

We did it all the time in my friends Oddy when they first came out. His parents found out and we all got in trouble. It was fun until we had to clean out his dad's barn.
