Ok...im new to this. I have had my gx150 for about two months now and im ready to put some mods on. I have been reading this forum for sum tips and this is wat i am going to buy so far:
9 gram CVT rollers
2000 RPM Clutch Spring
2000 RPM Clutch Arm Springs
1.5" Uni Filter
Racing CDI
125 Jets
I know i need tires and suspension but i dont know where to buy from. I want taller shocks because the ones on here are sucky and have no ground clearance. I also wanted to know where to buy a snorkle intake from. Please help!!!!
1. I would suggest the the 10g rollers and 1500 RPM torque spring if you do not want to lose top end speed. I prefer the stock clutch springs so a drop in engine RPMs will not let the clutch slip if the engine bogs on a hill.
2. Your suspension choices for the Yerf are the following in combination:
a. Carter 1150 shocks for the front and Yamaha Blaster front shocks for the rear
b. Buggy Depot front and rear shocks
c. Werks front and rear shocks
3. The rear hubs are 4x110mm (common in on Hondas). the stock rims will accommodate most 22x11-8 tires without swing arm rub unless they have very aggressive side treads. If you wish to run wider tires or chains, look for rims with 3" or less inside offset or get the wider and stronger Buggy Depot axle.
4. The front rims should be replaced with BMI or APS hubs that have the 4x4" (4x100mm) bolt pattern and 5/8" bearings - This pattern is common on utility trailer and Polaris rear rims. Choosing hubs with 3" inside offset or less will allow you to use up to 23" tall front tires. If you have the the Buggy Depot spindles with longer shafts, 25" tires will fit.
5. You are better off getting a prefilter cover for your UNI filter that trying to rig a snorkel intake. You will have intake velocity and tuning problems with you pursue a snorkel. _________________ 08 Joyner SandViper 250

for the tire size and the other necesary mods to make your kart scream just look in my signiture. You have the Yerf Dog 3209 with the gx150 howit engine. It is identical to the one I have.
First things first, buggydepot ball joints are a must as well as better a arms. The spindles should be upgraded as well.
If you are going to run bigger tires than you will need offset rims or extensions, because they will hit the frame. talk to teamhog about that, I think he has all of the part numbers and everything you will need in order to have all of the tires done.
Next mod you should do is shocks. I was able to climb a hill that a 350 oddesey can't with just tires and shocks. For the back use yamaha blaster shocks, and carter front shocks. You will need to make some brackets in order to make them fit. guy48065 made these on my dad's buggy (teamhog) and i just copied them.
Seat covers is a cumfort thing that helps alot and they are fairly cheap.
Next thing is the 39 tooth sprocket.
After that is the cvt mods. 10 gram rollers and 1500 compression spring. Uni and exaust. For the exaust the eisiest thing to do is cut the end off and drill it our with a hole saw, then weld the end back on.
After that you can get a bigger carb, we run mikuni tm24's with a 170 main jet and a 11.5 pilot jet.
Reverse is one of the things that will start to look good after picking up your buggy and turning it around so many times. It is fairly easy to install and after doing it on my and teamhog's buggy, i'm able to adjust the cable it in 10 to 15 minutes. It is rather costly but it definatly helps.
After you do the main mods, you can work other misc mods like the body panels I have or tub fenders.
If you have any q's just ask. I've been wrenching on my yerf for over 2 years now, not many things suprize me.
Just to let you know, you can expect to pay around 900 for all the mods.
thats some good info Adam . those suspention mods should work on a carter 2150 also? _________________ Blade buggies,Carter buggy's, ams (manco) , joyner, parts for almost anything

Adam, I too have the 3209 buggy and read your forum concerning mods. Great info!!! I also viewed the webpage your were reccommending and it was neat on the directions of the mods, however, you didn't say what kind of parts your were using. Particularly, the cam (high performance). I have the stock carb with a 120 jet, 10g rollers, 2k torque spring (probably will go to the 1500), kevlar belt, updated hubs on front, Cater DX150 shocks in the rear, stock YD shocks in the front, etc. My question is, you talked about updated A-Arms and ball joints. I 've heard about the ball joints, but what's wrong with the A-arms? Are you referring to the bugydepot ball joints for $99 for the ball joint recommendation?
Still debating on the reverse. Is the price worth the effort/gain you get? Why do you have to adjust the cable so much?
As far as the HP cam, can you really tell the difference? Is it enough to purchase and install the cam? How about a bigger head/valves? I've heard the howitt engine already has the big valves. True?
What other mods do you recommend besides the ones mentioned. How do you feel about the teflon clutch?
Most of the Yerf specific parts are from BuggyDepot.com.
Buggy Depot sells the A12 cam which is better for low end torque than for speed. If you want to retain top speed go for an A9 or A10 cam from one of the dealers on this site.
You would feel an improved difference using Buggy Depot rear shocks or Yamaha Blaster front chocks on your rear swing arm. On the front, the Carter shocks are little longer and requre brackets or flipping the lower a-arm to compensate for the longer shock. Buggy Depot's front shock is a bolt in affair with no modification required.
Over time the Yerf a-arm mounting tabs will fatigue and break - Buggy Depot's a-arms only work with inline ball joints (like McMaster's and Buggy Depot's), but are much stronger.
The Howhit engine already has the larger valves than most other engines, so the only way you can improve on this is to port and polish the head or go to the 4-valve head (you will lose the ability to sway out different cam grinds since it is different).
Reverse is a nice added plus for the buggy in tight locations, but it will raise the drive gear to a 16t over the stock 13t. The only way to compensate for this is to use a 39t axle sprocket. For me, I liked reverse but like low gearing better. The cable will stretch a little over time, but it does not require more adjustment than your drive chain.
A larger (115mm) teflon variator will be smoother and give you a little top end ratio - If you decide to go with siders over rollers, I would recommend a teflon variator.
I am running a high output coil, red CDI and Iridium spark plug These modifications do not give an immediate feedback of more power, but the engine runs smoother and better through out the RPM range.
If you are thinking about running extra lights or electrical accessories, think about a bigger stator and or rectifier. Even with my 11-pole stator, I do not feel a power loss or reduced idle.

Send pictures of your buggy if you can. Thanks.
The website is for the North East Buggy Assoc. and the mod page is a collection of mods from many different people in the group. I do not have a cam in my buggy and i don't feel the need to put one in. I know of someone who spent the money on a a12 cam and still couldn't compete with the yerf.
The next thing i would do is deck the head and port and polish. I have not done this nor do i have plans to but this seems like it is the next mod to do with the greatest performence.
The ball joints are the buggy depot ones because they have a lifetime warranty. the tabs on the aarms are so thin that they break off so we went ahead and had a welder make tabs to weld on.
For me the reverse is worth it mainly because it has become a pain to lift the end up and drag it around. The reason for adusting the cable so much is because from riding in such rocky terrain the cable gets tweaked every now and then so I have to move it back so its shifts smoothly.
