Just wondering if I should gut the muffler to get more power.I want more low to midrange power for trail riding.I don't really care so much about top end speed. If I can do 30-35 tops and can get more power at 20-25 then this is what I want.Any suggestions.

I opened up my exhaust and drilled about 4 more holes in the middle baffle area, but I don't know that it did any good. From what I've been reading, the real problem with the HH250 exhaust is that flex pipe. It allows the exhaust to cool, which is a bad thing (from what I've read).
If you're looking for an exhaust upgrade, you may want to check out the MRP exhaust that Kidinme sells or talk to ATL Top dog about his. _________________ Ron

Supersoxy, what is the last you head about your pipe? Maybe we should take my exhaust off and get someone to copy it and start selling them. lol _________________ Riding Dirty Team
Man, this is an ongoing saga. I called that guy last week, which was probably about the 8th time I've called him. He now says he hasn't done anything with the pipes, even though he has people wanting to buy them. He doesn't have the equipment to put the ceramic coating on them, so he has to sublet that. He says he's working with a vendor, but hasn't followed up on it. He now has no time table for getting them done. I sent an e-mail to Hammerhead Canada since they list that exhaust on their website, but they didn't respond.
What I'm thinking about doing is having a muffler shop bend some pipe for me so I can eliminate that flex pipe and then getting a Supertrapp on there. Sounds expensive, though. Maybe I should just put some heat wrap on it, see if that helps at all. I'm at a loss.
You think you could post some pics of your exhaust? I'd like to see how long that pipe is. Thanks. _________________ Ron

I believe the crappy exhaust design is the problem on those machines as much as the muffler is;-)
Comes out of head one size pipe then REDUCES smaller then flex pipe sigh
side note
With exhaust you do not want the pipe Too large or you lose scavenging
BUt the design was not meant to increase velocity it was meant to reduce to match that silly flex pipe sooo
1) you choke the flow up by putting a reducer on it (yes you can speed up velocity by reducing but i honestly dont think this is a performance design) Its easier to gain power by a larger pipe then trying to find the voodoo magic balance of flow and velocity optomized.
2)flex pipe sigh my understanding of what happens here with it cooling is you lose air velocity because when it goes through a regular exhaust hot the air molecules are separated (less dense) flows fast when the pipe is cooled or loses heat the air molecules going through it will bunch up more when they bunch up they slow down. Lose exhaust velocity.
For intake side you want the coolest air possible (more dense) more oxygen molecules in the same volume of air. Exhaust you want it hot exhaust expands and increases velocity.
So gutting a muffler imo is just putting a band-aid on larger problem.
I know the guy at hammerhead canada i will call him for you right now bud. His names Bill.
Exhaust system for hh250ss? Im working on one:)
If you pursue it yourself:
The pipe MUST be mandrel bent as well dont get fooled by some muffler shop doing "custom" exhausts... Pipe benders suck for performance.. any performance application the pipe must be mandrel bent to maintain inside dimensions around bends. "Custom" bent pipes kink on bends and restrict flow. _________________ Darren,

I'm working on supplying them with the new business but can't say too much without stepping on toes. I will become a site sponsor when everything goes live. Until then I have to keep my lip zipped. However I am looking at fabricating some unique parts that work. _________________ Darren,

I'm here to help. He will have a good exhaust kit on that thing for a reasonable price real soon if it kills me. _________________ Darren,
