my oldest son decided to take the carb off and does not remember which line goes where. need some help. i know its not right it will start and run for a min and fuel starts to run out of overflow and if you unplug the vacuum line of bottom of tank it will run for about 5 min and shut off and not start again
Left side of the carburetor is the fuel line from filter. Right side of the carburetor is vacuum line from intake elbow. Bottom of the carburetor is a free laying bowl drain line.
from what you said it sounds like the float is not shutting off.
plugging off vacuum line from tank is just shutting the gas off then it runs what gas is out of bowl and quits.
did he have carb apart maybe float pin fell out?

thats what i thought but i checked the float it seems to be working right, one side of the float had fluid inside, is that right?

you found your problem if there is gas inside one of the floats it not letting the float come up and shut the gas off.
its a bad float have to get a new one.

changed out the float and the fuel is still coming out the overflow. what else do I need to check

what height did you set your float?
have you check the needle to make sure it is not sticking and when the gas level comes up to where it is supposed to be that it is shutting the gas off.
also is the tab on the float pushing the needle shut.
