I'm looking into replacing the pumper style carb on my ss650 with either the Weber 40DCOE or the Mikuni VM34-389. Several people have posted on here that they have installed the Weber and seemed pleased. Does anyone have any experience with Mikuni?

I dont know if mikuni makes a two barrel. Most of my experience is with motorcycles slide carbs. Mikuni is a great carb you have to take apart to rejet them. You have to drop float bowl to change main jet Then there 5 positions on the slide needle for fine tuining. There are no seats on the idle circut you change to diff. jet on that circut if your to rich or leen. On your 650 you wiil have to fab. a manifold and run two carbs 30-32 mm. The carbs have to be exactly scyncronized thats done best with vacuum tape. OIn the other hand the weber is a two barrel all the jets are accesabil through top of the float bowl. the only other jet s the bowl jet 5 screws take the top bowl its right there. Weber carbs atamize so well the only thing better is fuel injection. I would say on the 650 the weber is the way to go. Im sure happy with mine.
