What is the largest rear sprocket that i can jam into a hammerhead 250ss and how small can i go up front as well...

Where can i find these sprockets?

I had planned to take it off and head to local honda dealer to try and get something -close- if it wouldnt fit i could always get it machined to fit.

Stock i have a 13 tooth up front and 39 out back...alot of people seem to like it but i think they are terribly weak gears heh

Maybe its just my stock clutch slipping...i dunno...

Im not concerned with maintaining the 55 mph speed 45 would be fine.

I don't think you can much smaller that 13t off the transmission and keep the strength you need for the torque that is applied. On the axle, you limited to the clearance of the carrier and how much you want to give up under the buggy. Many people have had luck finding large 520 or 530 sprockets at Tractor Supply Company, but I do not have a store nearby to verify what is available.

i had seen that MRP had trans. gear sets for gy6 and 250cc and others.i don't know if they would fit what you have or not fit, with a lower gearing ratio.
maybe one of the dealers here or someone else could answer this? that might be a way to go if there is a lower gearing ratio for your trans.
might gain some bad to the bone torque there Smile

All the MRP gear sets for the GY6 give you taller ratios. I did not look into the cn250 gears and do not know what is stock.

Im going to look for a 12 tooth front sprocket maybe smaller if they have a 11 tooth:P
I think i should be able to find a 12 tooth though and it would be very low in price wont effect clearance and i would not have to lengthen the chain or get a longer one just shorten it if adjuster doesnt have enough range.

Its always a % increase so 1 tooth on the small sprocket is a bigger difference then 1 tooth on the rear larger one.... not to overstate the obvious:D

How difficult is it to change to a different gear set? I never thought of that possibility..

Remember that the the engine sprocket has only a few teeth engaged on the chain at a time. If you are applying a lot of torque, you have a chance of stripping these teeth. Be careful how small you go.

The gear set is in the final transmission behind the clutch. depending on the condition of the gasket to the access cover, you may need to replace it after opening up the transmission.

so the 16/38 gear set will give more speed, while the 14/38 will give more bottom end.

alot of the newer buggy's should come with 14/38 or 13/38 gear sets for more bottom end. my wifes 150 has 14/38 in it stock

I have found GY6 gear sets with 14T x 38T and 16T x 38T. The Yerf uses a 13T x 40T gear set. Here are the gear ratios:

13T x 40T = 1:3.077
14T x 38T = 1:2.714
16T x 38T = 1:2.375

I do not have any information the CN250 gear sets.

pghruby remembering and reading here some of the guys had went back to the honda helix and found parts for there machines.
here is what i come up with 14/35 that is from a diagram from
(bikebandit.com) on the 1996 honda helix 250
(cheapcycleparts.com) 1986 honda ch250 ac it also showed 14/35 gears
might want to confirm this but i have read here of these parts working 14/35 2.50 ratio
i dont' know what is in 250cc buggys though
