I am about to put the fan pulley back on the variator. After breaking the fan pulley getting the nut off I don't want to repeat that mistake. Would it be a good idea to put some anti-seize lube on it or not?

what did you use to get the nut off? I have never had a problem with it and my impact, and i've had it off over 2 dozen times. _________________ yerf-dog 3209

My impact wrench must not be strong enough. I had it turned up higher than it is supposed to be and couldn't break it loose. The drive belt had broken so I had to take it off the first time. I tried all sorts of things trying to prevent the pulley from turning so I could break it loose. I ended up getting a pipe wrench inside the pulley and a breaker bar and socket on the nut. I put it back together and the belt was stuck to deep in the clutch pulley. The belt was in the way so I couldn't get the pipe wrench in there to hold it this time. The impact wrench didn't work again. I broke the pulley trying to use steel rods in the holes in the fan pulley holes to hold it.

i use an electric impact, is yours off an air compressor if so it's most likely not big enough. _________________ yerf-dog 3209

I would understand if the problem had been getting it off the first time. After I put the nut back on and then couldn't get it off was crazy. I went ahead and put some anti-seize on it and put it back together. It's running great for now. If I have to take it apart I will find out how well it works.

Im a little worried that your anti seize compound might not be able to lock it on tight enough...you will find out soon enough...
I tried NOT using lock tite once and just using electric impact and after about an hour of riding i heard a real nasty grinding so i shut it down....got towed home took it apart and yep variator had backed off and was grinding on the case...What a way to UGLY up a new Dr.pulley variator. I caught it early though and didnt drive like that so just the fan got a little scuffed up. _________________ Darren,

G390 did your variator nut have a washer behind it?
if not look at your nut that has a washer made on it,sort of all in one deal thing.on the back side of it there are some tits all away around it sticking out some, enough to fill it with your finger nail. so if you put it back on without a washer and tighten it down, those little tit like things will dig into the aluminum.then once you go to take it back off it can be a real mother.
just thought i would mention that if you don't have a washer on it. pays to have one clutch nut to.
after my first time i just use a 3/8's air rachet to tighten and take off, its rated 60lb at 90psi. i have never had a problem, you can overtighten and break things.
