The first mod I'm doing is changing out my 32t axel sprocket to 39, and am wondering if anyone has a picture of how they modified the engine support to make this fit? Bend it? Cut it? Grind it? I have a Carter Talon GSX150...

Also, running stock 19" tires front and back, do you think this sprocket will be overkill? Looking for climbing ability here more then top end.

Last one... since the 39t is so much larger, how many clearance issues can I look forward to before I get bigger tires? Would it be wise to fab some sort of guard under it?

You should not have any issues with clearance, carter has put them on most all the newer buggy's.

I hope the same goes for chain clearance by the support bar. I should clarify.. I'm talking about the bar that the brake caliper mounts on, right in front of the sprocket and chain. One glance at this sprocket and it looks like it's gonna be tight, but I'll find out tonight. Really hoping I won't have to do any grinding to keep my chain from rubbing on that bar.

My clock just isn't moving fast enough today.... new sprocket and chain on my desk, and I'm stuck in the office. I'm going crazy waiting to rip that axel apart...

Got it apart and back together last night, but it did take a little work.

Turns out, the reason I was worried about clearance to that crossbar is because the bar is bent... must have hit a massive rock or something... but with a little banging and cutting the brake guard a bit with a hacksaw... all is well again. Chain was also a little short... but I cut out a link from the old chain to make it work with the 2 master links. And my ground clearance is a little lower with the larger sprocket, so fabbing a guard of some sort is a must with the large rocks up here...

But with no other mods besides this new 39t sprocket... the difference was amazing. I couldn't get over an ant hill with stock, and needed full throttle just to climb the driveway. Hills are practically a non-issue now, with a few exceptions that I know are gonna be tough. But lighter rollers, better intake/exhaust and a rejet aughta fix that.

Thanks again for the advice... If I hadn't have found this forum, I'd be crawling or pushing everywhere I go.

I did, and at first thought I might need a longer tensioner, but once it was tightened to a 1/2" play, there was still an inch or two to work with to adjust further when the chain stretches a bit, so all is well.

this might sound like a stupid question...but, did you buy a sprocket made special for your cart....? or did you just buy a 39 tooth sprocket and drill the holes to make it fit....im asking because i've been looking for one for a lil bit now and there all for motorcycles, so the bolt holes dont line up.....thanks in advance...

Quick question regarding this new sprocket. I see so many of the axle sprockets which state they work with the 420 chain. Which chain is this 39 tooth sprocket designed to work with?

If my ASW buggy is equipped with a 530 chain (and it is, even the sprocket is stamped 32T 530, plus I measured the chain with a caliper and it's a 530), what are my options for a 37 or a 39 tooth gear?

It's currently geared 16 / 32 but with 21" tires. After I upgrade that machine with taller 22" tires, I would like to adjust the drive / axle ratio to a 16 / 37 or 16 / 39. My preference would be for a 37 tooth actually, which is probably asking too much as I do not think they are very easy to find.
