Hello all. I am hoping someone can help me with this problem. I have a 2004 Twister that only has 32 hours on it. I have not used it a lot since I have had it so it sits in the garage a lot, which is a crime in itself. One day I was out driving it and it was running great, then when I came back to the house to pick up my wife, to take her for a ride, it started to bog down as she was getting in and then it died. I couldn't get it to start again after that. A few days later it started, but it would not idle at all. I figured it must be a dirty carb because of possible old gas may have gummed up the carb. I drained all the gas and cleaned the carb and tank. I then replaced the jets with brand new stock jets just to be sure. Now it will start only if I hold the gas about half way down. But when it starts it will not stay running. While it is running I can hold the throttle full open and it will start to surge. It will keep going from high to low RPMS. When it is at the low side it will blow out white smoke and when running at normal higher RPMS no smoke. So what should I be looking for? Is it a carb problem or something electrical? I need to fix this because I plan on selling it. Any help would be great. thanks.
I would look at the fuel lines, vacunm lines, first. then adjust the valves. _________________ Blade buggies,Carter buggy's Atv's, parts and repairs. accessories for all makes.

All the lines are good. Why would the valves need to be adjusted? Like I said this thing has 32 hours on it since new in 2004.
if i remember wright they say after 40 hours of riding adjust valves,i never have gotten 40 hours before i can start to tell that the valves need adjusted.
also have you check the rubber intake for leaks they are famous for causing problems
if you can keep it running spray some carb cleaner or starting fluid around it and over it and see engine sounds changes or dies out,if it does it leaking
this to will cause hard starts, won't idle and bogging.

You can't assume anything was adjusted properly even when it was new. These things aren't made by Honda. It's always best to KNOW that it's right. Also, I think the manual says to check the valve adjustment quarterly, but that's a guess.
Anyway, I hope that helps. Pud's suggestions were right on as well. _________________ Ron

I finally got a round to messing with the cart. I can get it to start but only with the gas pedal pushed. It will not idle at all. When I give it full gas it runs fine for a short time, then it bogs down for a second and then back to full rpms. I checked the adjustment on the valves and they were set at 4 thousandths. Could this be a choke problem? The rubber around the intake is also good.
I need to get this thing fixed so I can sell it. What do you think it is worth as is? I am moving out of state so I have to sell it. Any help on trying to get this problem solved would be great. Thanks.
Sounds like it's in the carb. If the choke (fuel enrichment) is bad, then it would be "on" all the time, and should allow the buggy to start cold, but then it would not run well once warm. THere's a fairly simple test to see if the choke is good. You can find it on here by doing a search. You may need to clean out the carb. Does it have fresh fuel?
As far as value, and this is just a guess, but I'd say anywhere from $500 to $1000 depending upon where you're located. Where are you located? _________________ Ron

When I first started having problems I took the carb apart, cleaned it and replaced the jets with stock ones. It starts no problem cold (with the pedal pressed), but can't get it warm to see how it runs like that.
I am located in Corpus Christi, TX. I was thinking of listing it for $900 since it is fairly new, only 32 hours on it. But if I can't fix it I will go lower, of course.
