I bought a sunl 150 buggy for my daughter about 2 years ago which I have found to be one of the poorest ouality machines out there. I didnt check the oil filter to see if it was oiled when it was new. In no time at all the dust went through the filter and took out the rings. I put new rings in and after this winter the fuel glazed in the carb and wouldnt run right. It needed an new float needle. Bought a new carb ( was as cheap as the actual rebuild kit ) and now it runs great. Only problem is the intake boot was cracked, dust got in and again the rings are shot. You have to add oil before you run 1 tank of fuel through.
I am trying to decide whether to put rings in again or buy a 250cc motor to put on it. I think it would be fun with more power, just not sure where to find a 250 motor. I have found the replacement GY6 150cc engines on ebay, but not the 250cc. Has anyone else out there had problems like this with the rings? Also, are the other engines better and more reliable, unlike the freaking sunl's? Thanks
yep that has happen a few times that i have read here.
luckily i caught the part in my little manual that came with it that the filter was to be oiled.
when you said intake boot did you mean the intake that bolts to engine that the carb goes on.maybe it wasn't dust this time and the engine was running hot to lean and took the rings out.
buggy depot has the 150cc gy6 howhit engine that alot of guys here are running and say they are tuff.
give sunl heck though engine parts are hard to find for them and they don't care they want a person to buy a whole new engine.thats my opinion
good luck with what ever you go with.
