Ran it last weekend up the road, pretty flat asphault and hit 42mph per the stock speedometer.

Bvroc I would check it with a GPS, or somthing that's known to be accurate with in reason. My Sand Viper's speedo is so inaccurate more so on acceleration, oppose to gradually increasing the speed. Bike spedos are fairly accurate, and yu are able to calibrate them, plus bike spedo have an odometer. This is a good mod for anyone with a 150cc without a speedometer, you can super glue an earth magnet to the rim, mine has been on for months with out problem.

Sure, I'll get a GPS on it at some point. I would be skeptical too, it sure seemed fast sitting in it. The manufacturer states top speed of 35-39mph. When we got it, it wouldn't break an indicated 21mph on our "test" stretch of mostly smooth off-road straight.
I was rather disappointed in the performance, so much so I had the factory send me a new CDI because I thought it must have been the "20mph" max speed reduction unit you can special order for smaller drivers to keep their speed lower.
However, after we modded it, it now will touch an indicated 30mph+ on our test stretch. The overall improvement was dramatic to say the least. (It went from "This is fun." to: "Wheee!!!" and "Yoooo, hoooo!! Hang on!")
I thought the manufacturers estimates of 35mph top speed was way more possible then the some of the 50mph or 60mph numbers thrown out by distributors or other manufactures. I assume you think the 35mph+ manufacturer estimate is wrong? And that our modifications are not likely to have improved upon it? Really, I am asking for your opinion.
We hit our top indicated speed (literally 38.8mph, so 39 was bragging ok, you got me. ) on smooth pavement of course. It also does have a built-in odometer - I wonder if there's any way to calibrate it? It's the digital dash very much like the one on the Twister Hammerhead GT200. Maybe our tiny 21" stock rear tires are helping keep the motor in the power band, or they are throwing off the speedo? No one else runs such small tires that I know of.
We'll just have to wait and see really, any suggestions on a good off-road GPS? I was going to get one anyway.

No quite the contrary, I think 39 is well within reason. My 150 est. top speed was 36mph and it does that, but with all the mods it does it quicker, with good climbing, and very responsive. I'm just saying I would verify the accuracy of the speedo. With the money I've spent on mods I believe 40+ would been very obtainable, however I be stuck riding in flats, I've done that and it's boring. I have the most fun climbing hills and going as fast as I can down them into turns and small elevation changes. Thats the beauty of these cart it's relatively inexpensive to modify them to your driving taste, and course demands.

I have the same dash and speedometer that Bvroc has on his buggy, I think it is also the same as the Carter ones. I checked mine with my GPS and there was less than 2 mph difference between the buggy speedo and the GPS reading. The same factory that builds the Twisters builds the Carters and the Manco buggy as well, so I'm sure the speedometers are all calibrated in the same way. You'll still want to verify your buggy but I'm betting that your speedometer is pretty accurate.

I've got the all famous SunL150. It does'nt have a speedometer, so I had my co-worker pace me in a Jeep Cherokee. According to him we were doing 40mp. The distance was approx. 1/4 mile, blacktop, flat surface. Maybe next time I'll have a cop shoot me with the laser. Hey, that ain't a bad idea. I'm glad I thought of that.

21" tires are pretty big. I am only running 19" tires in the back and they seem plenty big...
