Thanks Pud, I think I'm going to take that advice and look for a 39t even before I have new tires... might slow me down quite a bit with the stock 19", but I gotta defeat these hills. I will not let them beat me... (running out of stamina to keep pushing this thing...)
Now... anybody know where to get a 39t axel sprocket to fit a Talon 150? (and willing to ship to Canada?) I've been waiting more then a month for variator rollers from my local dealers, hopefully I can get a sprocket a little quicker...
no problem MikeK, i sort of know what you are going through.
when my buggy was stock it came with 22'' tires and a 31 tooth axle sprocket, man i couldn't get it up a hill or even over a stick laying in a trail , it was sad.with a few cheap mods it does better then i would have ever thought.
i'm sure it is some rough going up there and any gain you get in power will help you.
i got my sprocket at reliable gocarts to and they are a twister hammerhead dealer.the reason i mention that is that i read in another post you guys were talking about a twister dealer up your way.so there might be a 39 tooth sprocket closer to you then you think also links for your chain to or a new chain which ever way you go.the chain is #530 also #50 chain will work to.
to give you some idea of the 39t sprocket size look at your rear brake rotor it will be almost the same size as it, just a tiny bit bigger not hardly enough to notice though.
hang in there with a few mods you will have a pretty good trail machine

OK... sprocket is ordered, (thanks BigE, no thanks to ReliableGoKarts or any of the others that refused shipping to Canada)
Also installed body panels on the front to keep the water out a bit, installed a rear view mirror, new 'skull' tail light hooked up and shining bright, and new reverse cable installed (added a short sheath of rubber hose around the cable where I zip-tied it to the frame to prevent more pinching, rusting and seizing, also oiled cable and added rubber tape around the adjustment screws to keep out dirt and prevent rust. Easy to take off and very flexible, water proof, plan on doing the same with Throttle and Brake cables) Now just waiting for 9.5g rollers, new DRP Hit clutch, drive belt, 39t sprocket, foam filter and jets.... is my addiction showing yet?
One last thing... if there are any Carter dealers in Canada reading this... pay attention. If there's no after-sale help, then you'll never get repeat business when we upgrade. I've contacted 5 authorized "dealers" of the talon up here, and NOT ONE is willing to service, or even help me find parts for this machine. They all tell me to go to Carter's website. Which is fine for OEM, but no help in finding aftermarket items to match. I've been waiting 2 months now for my rollers, clutch, belt and air filter. THAT SHOULD BE STOCK ON YOUR SHELF IF YOU SELL THESE THINGS! And they're only a few hours away from me. I'd love to shop local, but so far you're all pathetic.
Thanks to my neighbours to the south for helping a buggy addict get his fix... I really appreciate your help and advice. I've been taking pics as I go along... share them as soon as I can.
Sorry to here about the shipping problem.I dont really blame them though shipping is a pain sometimes on out of the country items.I had a nightmare with shipping to the land down under. And I will never ship out of the country again. As for service you will have to use someone like BigE.Cause most dealers want to sell them and that is it.Just like Yerf Dog they were pretty horrible on there after the purchase parts ordering. But good luck with you modifications.I know you can get a lot of help here.James _________________ http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/YERFDOGGX150PARTS/?yguid=63829871
