Guys,

Finally completed all my upgrades, to refresh the story:

Bought a Kinroad 150 (Sahara Clone named BMX), got it cheap as the guy who sold it to me had apparently taken it swimming.

As we ride at a place called Windrock in TN, set it up to climb tall steep hills.

Upgrades included: 155cc piston, new rings, unifilter, new teflon variator w/ 10g rollers, 1500lbs torque spring, 122.5 jet.

Buggy runs great, although at high RPM it does seem to pop a bit (like it has a rev limiter).

Anyway, we took her to Windrock, did a few trails, and then roasted the drive belt. I figured it was from heat build-up, but when I removed the cover, not only did I find a completely shredded belt, but when I went to clean the pulleys, I found a few needle bearings had dislodged from my clutch assembly and that one of my clutch friction plates had sheared off the clutch.

As I search for replacement bearings and clutch I am beginning to think I may be better off buying a complete new clutch assembly, rather than going through the hassle of finding the bearings and removing re-installing. I have spent enough on this buggy so far, and really don't want to pop for a Dr Pulley clutch.

Any thoughts?

As always,

Thanks for the Help!

Mike

Buying a entire new clutch assembly is the way to go. I just replaced my entire unit about a month ago. They can be had pretty cheap. This way you get a new bell and pulley as well. I have found the stock clutch to perform quite well once you get the gearing and roller weights set up for your situation.

Spool,
Thanks for the reply, I believe that is the way i'm gonna go. Still confused as to what caused the needle bearings to fail like they did, but oh well, such is life!

If the buggy sat under water, there's a good chance all the lubricant in the bearings was washed out and they were running dry.

ender891 on the popping on at high rpms check your coil wires they may be a little loose or not making good contact.
or maybe it could be a little lean whats your plug look like after a wide open run for aways?
also few guys are starting to get the 37tooth axle sprocket to,that would be a big help to you to climbing those long steep hills.
BIGE and kidnme can get you that if you have the double row sprockets
i'm with spool i like the stock clutch and bell it does well for me to
good luck pud
