There!! finally! someones turbo setup that actually has a Blow off valve... All the buggy turbo kits I find for sale on here, there is no blow off valve on the system, its crazy... whats the boost supposed to do when you let off to shift gears??? back surge your turbo?? its gotta cause terrible wear to the turbo not to mention possibly mad gear grinding when shifting. I cant see why they dont just put a blow off valve on it (for blow-thru type), they are only $35 off ebay.
Maybe it has something to do with carbureter only?? I guess I will find out...

This 1100cc has the best sounding turbo setup I have heard yet, gotta have the blow off valve... but there is one big problem with these guys setup... why on earth would you put the turbo way down there almost under the engine?? Thats just asking for a huge rock to stab in when you bottom out, or to get thrown up by the tire and demolish the turbo. Not to mention huge waves of water hitting it from crashing through puddles. Thats what would happen to me in about 2 minutes with how I drive my buggy, rocks are constantly being thrown up at the bottom and back of the buggy by the front tires... but figures tho they dont even take it off road... its a 'street queen' I assume??

Also what about the gravity oil drain from the turbo?? there is no slope in the return line, in fact its going back upslope right before the oil pan...hows gravity going to help pull the oil out of the turbo and back into the pan?? I would be concerned with oil flow with how they have it setup in this video.

And the plumbing is horrendous no offense to these guys, it has to wrap around the engine and then come back... thats because they put the turbo in back right off the headers. I can understand why one would like the turbo coming right off the header (almost all performance EFI cars setup this way) but on a off road buggy it causes other issues like placing the turbo in a precarious place and plumbing issues...I mean imagine if they decided to put a intercooler on it, then the plumbing would really get confusing...

They should take a page from the book of the other turbo builders on here and make the turbo remote and farther down on the main exhaust pipe. The turbo would sit where the muffler is now and then the plumbing would be easier and much more accessible, especially if an intercooler is installed. the pipe would go from turbo up to the intercooler (that could be mounted behind your head for good air flow) and then back down thru the blow off valve and then to the throttle body. there would be no pipes or turbo under/behind the engine to get smashed by rocks. plus the oil drain will function much better cause the turbo is much higher (same height as the muffler) you get a pretty good slope in the oil return line for gravity to help.

But hey enough with my complaining, you cannot argue with that power and that beautiful sound. Its just definitely not how I would have set the turbo up.

ohhh I cant wait till Im turbo too Twisted Evil

I havent seen many kits, but my650 has a blow-off valve and all of the turbo buggies Ive seen have had blow off valves. Im not sure what kits you have been looking at.

guess I should have said the top part better. what I meant is all the turbo kits I have seen (in pictures) for the carbureted 800cc have no blow off valves on them. Never looked much at the EFI kits cause I dont have one...

heres some examples:

Unleashed turbo kit

turbo kit from Westcoast

I am wondering whats the reasoning behind the lack of a BOV... maybe I am missing something about carbureted turbos but I would think you would always want/need a BOV...

Maybe it is there and you are not seeing it. I have a carburated 650 Joyner with a Turbo and everytime I let off the gas you can hear the tell tell hiss of the blow off. But I couldnt point to a peice and tell you where the blow off valve is. I know that some turbos come with a built in blow off valve and a preset non adjustable boost. Maybe the kits you are seeing have that sort of set-up. Mine has an adjustable boost controler but possibly a built in blow off valve. The guy who would know is Scott at unleashed motor sports. I used to think West Coast was a good sorce for info but lately He has not returned messages and some of the info he has put on this sight is questionable. Give Scott at unleashed a call.

No its definitely not there. just look at the pictures, theres nothing but tube between the turbo and the carb, the BOV would be right there and very obvious.
You are thinking of the waste gate, which regulate the amount of exhaust gasses allowed to pass thru the turbine, thus deciding how much psi your are running at max desired boost. Waste gates can be either internal (part of the turbo) or external as a seperate peice. heres example of internal wastegate

As far as I know I have never heard of or seen any turbo that has a BOV built in. I know that the turbos in the kits I showed above definitely do not have built in BOV.

I have tried calling scott at unleashed but I didnt get a call back after leaving a message with his secretary. Try again next week I guess
