i've been looking for an utv and i'm torn between a razr and the joyner 650 sand spider. since you have experienced both sides what is your opinion, i'm looking for more woods trail riding and climbing power.. i've watched videos of the joyner on youtube but they are all just people driving around in circles i like to see it limits before i purchase one.
The RZR will definitely out climb the 650.
I had to upgrade to the dual carb and exhaust on the 650 to get more performance.
The 650 cannot get going on a steep hill from a stand still.
The RZR will pull anything. _________________ 08 Polaris RZR!

As a example, went riding today with a couple of Joyner's, a 1100 and 800, some quads and dirt bikes.
There were a few very steep rocky hill climbs both the 1100 and 800 could not get a run at it and could not make the hill. They would loose power even in 1st gear.
Its was a cake walk for the RZR and quads. Could climb it in Hi or Lo gear.
I love the v-twin in the Teryx but I really like the size of the RZR.....Man, If I procrastinate long enough, Can Am will have theirs out, then what ????
LOL...I think the ability to put the RZR in a truck bed is a BIG plus.....
Great ride man... _________________ "Three can keep a secret if two are dead"

You guys are comparing apples and oranges. The rzr is 4x4 and much smaller than any of the joyners. It boils down to the type of rideing you do. If you are going to compare the rzr to a 650 it should be the 650 commando which is a utv and 4x4 just like the rzr. It will climb just as well as the ranger but cost two or three grand less. The 650 ss and the larger sand rail style buggies will leave the rzr in the dust on open desert riding or on the dunes. Get the right machine for the job and you will be happy. _________________ 2005 Joyner 650 Turbo

Vanet,
What kind of top end are you getting out of the turbo 650? The RZR and the 1000 I have the same top speed but the RZR gets there quicker. _________________ 2008 RZR

I have had the 650 turbo clocked at 72 and it gets there in a hurry. The 1000 I have which is just like the one you had, gps at 79. Recently we went to hot wells dunes and got involved in some informal racing and performance tests (they didnt want to let us in at first, thought we wouldnt be competitive) with some side by side guys. The only thing that could beat the 1000 or the 650 turbo was a highly modified rhino. The 1000cc was second, the 650 turbo was third, a rzr (stock and only three days old) was forth, and then various rhinos, artic cats and rangers mostly all stock with backseats and suspention added but stock motors. The place where the rzrs really fell down was going through whoops at high speed the stock rzr was almost last out of 13 people because they had to slow down considerably to maintain control through the rough stuff. The modified rhino was first through the whoops as well, with the 650 out shining the 1000 here. Probably because of the aftermarket shocks on the 650. The verdict when all was done was people were gathering around the buggies wondering where I got them and how much I payed. Most had heard of Joyner but had never seen one. They had all heard they were garbage along with all the other chinese buggies out there, but had a different opinion by the time it was over. The guy with the heavily modified rhino said he had almost 30k in the rhino and he barely beat out the 1000 in a couple of tests. Keep in mind that both of my buggies have had serious work done on them both for performance as well as reliability. The 1000 didnt even get used for almost two years because of mechanical issues. All that having been said I am very happy with how they perform now. So happy that I recently picked up another 1000, used, to start to modify. A 2006 Sunl. What is interesting about this one is that it is carburated and has a 2-barrel carb. I didnt know they made any 1000ccs that were carburated. It appears to be very well built, much better than the LJ tech 1000 that I already have, but it has less traval and also looks much heavier. I am thinking about fabbing up a turbo for this one, but I am going to start with exhaust and intake first. Anybody know where I can get jets for this Carb? You are correct in everything you state almost.
I was replying to the newbie who wanted to know how the stock RZR climbed compared to a 650 viper.
I know your buggies are heavily modified so we are not talking stock.
The buggies do have a higher top end speed on the flats although not by much as the RZR will do better than 60 and probably get there faster.
Also the stock RZR will climb to the top of sand mountain here in NV and the stock 1100 viper will not make it even with sand paddles.
But you are correct, get the right machine for the type of riding and decide how much after market money you are willing to spend to improve the performance. _________________ 08 Polaris RZR!

The reason that the rzr climbs better than the 650ss is that it is 4x4. Which is what I stated and I was trying to help the newby understand that he was compareing two vehichles that do different things.
Alot of the rest of what you have said is just plain wrong. The rzr is 55mph according to the polaris web site. I understand that it can be made to go faster but then we are not talking stock are we.
I dont own a rzr but I like them and have no reason to down play them, As you obviously do with the Joyners. Everthing I stated above was real world test against real rzrs and although they are great machines they do not compete in sand or desert with a well setup buggy. i am sorry you had a bad experiance but lets keep things un biased so everone gets thje straight story. Granted I did not GPS my RZR but per the speedo it is 61mph on the flats bone stock. I understand you can remove a spacer on the clutch and get 68mph. Not much of a mod just removing a part.
Anyway a few mph is not a big deal.
I have owned many Joyner buggies, Rhino and now the RZR and you have not!
Geez there is one in every forum.
So continuing this conversation is pointless. _________________ 08 Polaris RZR!
