Ok, so I am filling my 06 HH250 with the good Royal Purple stuff. I drained the existing lube on the bottom of the box, and filled at the top. The question is......does this thing really take more than a liter of the lube? I exhausted 1 liter at 15 bucks already and it is not topped off? Do I REALLY need more than that? Thanks!

Jason

No bro, mine takes 0.2L, I don't think it's supposed to take that much, just enough to lubricate the gears. Check what the manual says, The Dazon Manual I have said 0.2L, it's prob close or the same. You're talking about the gear oil, right?

Yep, gear oil. That manual doesn't say anything at all about gear oil capacity. I hope I put it in the right hole (hehe). there is only 1 plug at the bottom of the gearbox and one at the top, so I am sure I can't go wrong!

Sooooo, I went into the garage and loosened the gearbox drain plug JUST to make sure I put the lube in the right place, and it is. Since I already put a whole liter in, is there a need to put more? I can tell you that when I drained it, a liter surely did not come out! Anybody with an HH out there that has seen this? Thanks.

I don't think I got a whole liter in mine. I just filled mine up until it overflowed the fill hole. I don't know if the ones with the hi/lo are different than the 2006, though. I'd say you probably can't overfill it, and two, if you put more in that you took out, you should be ok. If you stick your finger in the fill hole, can you feel the oil level?

Hey there. Well, first, my finger will not fit in the hole, so I took a thin metal rod about a foot long and dropped it down there. It had to maneuver around parts, but it finally slid down about 3/4 of the way up the rod. I took it out and about 2 inches of the bottom had oil on it. In a nutshell, the rod went almost all the way down and only 2 inches of lube was on the rod. It just seems it could possibly hold another half a liter???

Yep. The 2006 is definately different. Mine fills on the side, between the chain to the final sprocket. I'm no expert, but I wouldn't think you could overfill it.

After checking out Brian's Joyner I noticed 3 holes that lead into the gear box, there is one on top with a nylon white washer under it, there is a wide one next to the chain and it has a wide black nylon washer (this is the full hole- if you fill til' fluid comes out of that hole, you are full) and the bottom bolt is the drain plug.

I can be mistaken but these are the discoveries I made on a nice little Joyner that was a nice experience to work on.
