Well I managed to blow the left rear cvc joint on my Sand Spider. Does anybody know how to get it off the output shaft of the trans? I think it has a small clip that holds it in but I cannot figure out how to get it off. I already got the new unit & I wanted to replace the whole unit, not using old parts.

I'm not positive but I would guess that it is no different than an 800 or 100 setup.....Do a search and you'll see that a steady, even pressure will pop it off.....Just be careful about prying against the tranny case and trans bearing....

Good luck...... Very Happy

Thanks, it came to me last night that if I use a gear puller it should put enough presure on it to pop off. I tried the pry method & it scared me putting that kind of presure on those cases.

I did two people each with a pry bar, one person prys on the top edge of the cv and the other person on the bottom. This applies the pressure much more evenly to the cv helping to avoid it binding when trying to get it off. also alot safer for the casing

Well I tried the two pry bars & still no luck, it's amazing how that little clip can stand that pressure. This is what I finally came up with, I drilled two holes opposing each other put two bolts with nuts & used a gear puller. It still took a lot of pressure to get it off, but less chance of busting a case.
Thanks for the ideas. Also check your cotter pins on the rear axle nut for breakage, mine broke & the nut backed out & I almost lost the hub & wheel. I think this is why I broke the cvc joint, I found the lose hub after breaking the joint.

I see thats one of the new sixpoint axles that got destroyed.... how did you break it? Im curious cause I spent $350 to upgrade to these axles on my 800cc, so I am wondering what it took to destroy it... got any pics of the carnage done to the cv??

Well I like I said in my last post, I feel the wheel hub was so far out that it was either binding or just torqued it wrong. All I did was go over a high burm at a weird angle. I don't have the bearing anymore but it basicly just broke the carrier to pieces.

All Joyners, as long as I've known, have had the 6ball and cage inner. And it sounds to me like jb is talking about the outer cv. jb? As many cv's that I've removed, the for sure easiest way to remove any inner cv is to lower the rear control arm out of the way and keep everything together as long as the cv hasn't completely exploded, even if it has, with one or two pulls outward on the axle they come off. Like a slide hammer. Maybe next time Wink

No it was the inner. I had to replace the cv boots one time & I tried getting it off the way you did & couldn't do it. Just must have gotten a good clip, even with that puller set up it took some serious cranking to get it off. My son couldn't believe that little clip was that strong.
