Do you use a paper gasket in between the head and the riser? I used the think paper gasket that came with the intake manifold that I bought from Glade, and this past weekend, the only problem I have had was supporting the darn intake and filter that kept popping off on big bumps... I am going to make a strap or soemthing to attach it to the swingarm crossbar, that way it is secured tight... I just ahve to figure out what to use...

RMB,

I am using a 32mm MRP carb. I was able to work the connector from the original carb around the larger diameter opening of the new 32mm carb that the intake filter tube attaches to. It's a very tight fit but is secure. After looking at yours, I am thinking that maybe I should use a larger diameter connecter and intake tube (that the air filter connects to) as yours appears larger in diameter and less restrictive. Where did you get your connecter and that red intake tube?

Thanks,

Andy

My connector is a 1-1/2" fernco coupling with the flange cut off of it on one side to slip tightly against the carb, and the red pipe is a piece of 1-1/2" PVC pipe painted to match the buggy. I have a 32mm pumper carb, not sure where from, but I got it from Glade at Edge powersports. He also got me the 30mm manifold and K&N filter with an outerwears sock for the filter...

I got the riser from a huge box of goodies I won off ebay from a member on this board!!! It came is amazing parts and spares and everything you can imagine!!! the riser was the bonus!!!

I had to grind the nuts to make them fit on the riser, and i had no spacers to use on the original studs to mount the riser, but it came out pretty sweet. it is all aluminum. I read the plug today and it is a shade lean... tolerable, but I want a little more!!!

What is a Fernco Coupling? Is that something that is used by plumbers? Where can I buy a Fernco Coupler? Lowes?

Thanks,

Andy

It's a piece of rubber connector with hose clamps on each side. I believe you get them at your plumbing supply store.

Go to racemybuick's photo gallery and there's a great shot of his carb set up under his 2007-2008 buggy photos.

Hope that helps.

fernco couplings are exactly that supersoxy! it is a rubber connector of a specific size (or 2 different sizes for reducers), that have band clamps on each side. i got mine from home depo for 4 dollars i believe... they are cheap... you only need one.

The pvc pipe I had at work, you only need a 4"-6" piece, so you dont need to buy an 8' section, look around for scrap or smaller section in the plumbing isle.

The fernco couplings have a lip that holds the band clamp in place on the edge of the coupling. My pix dont show that yet, but I removed that lip with a razor last weekend to get the clap closer to the carb. After doing that, the filter never popped off again... The carb still needs some support, but I will figure that out soon... hehehehe
