I would start with the obvious things first, check
cooling system to see if its plugged up with rust and gunk, then check the thermostat, then check the
water pump.

When I had this problem on my 800cc, it was a bad electrical connection. The electrical connectors are very cheap, and I have had to replace many of them.

In my case, this was not allowing the cooling fan to cycle on. Make sure that the fan turns on as it gets hot. If it is not, check the connectors. I have also heard that the fans are multi directional, and some have been blowing in the wrong direction. ( I have no personal experience with this)

Good luck.

Chris

I would pull the valve cover and check the tork on the head bolts also, I havent seen very many from the factory that were all tight.
Infact most of the time two or three are 20 lbs or less and that will let the compression leak enough to heat the water without presurizing the cooling system.
They need to be 40-45 ft. lbs. with stock bolts .
You dont need to tear anything apart just pull the valve cover.

Later W.C.

80 degrees is the temp. before you start most likely. What is the temp. it rose to? The nominal running temp. is 190-210 with the fan turning on around 200-205 degrees. Is it EFI or carb? I don't think the cooling fan would affect any high temps. unless you are out running the buggy. Take off the radiator cap and see if the system is flowing. I know with the carb. buggy, after it warms up and the choke is still on, it doesn't run well at all.

Jo I'm thinking it must have those crappy factory gauges, the temp is in celsious. I have never seen an 800 with these gauges that didnt read in the red after a few minutes of driving, but if you put a good " American " temp gauge on it they are actually running normal 195-205 F.

Thanks WC these buggys are pretty basic. I always say start with the easily obvious fix or possability 1st and go from there. I'm sure they will figure it out.
