| < Modfifications - Full Sized Buggy and Sand Rails ~ head shave .030 miss on cylinder 3 GK-32 EFI. |

I just got the head shaved yesterday and everything went back together fine. But I have a miss on cylinder #3 (the closest to the distributor). We also installed an aftermarket fuel pressure regulator after the fuel rail and set it at 35 psi.
Not sure if we have an intake leak or a plugged up injector. Or maybe let some RTV gasket material get in the way of the injector.
It only misses when you rev it up quickly, when you rev it up slowly there is not a miss. We removed the plug wire one at a time to identify the missing cylinder. We also rechecked the valve lash as well.
At 10:30pm last night the wife said call it a night. So this morning I will change the plug on #3 Again. along with a new plug wire.
Then I as much as a hate to remove the fuel rail and injectors, clean them and try again, then take the intake off and make a new gasket.
are there any intake gaskets available at a local parts store?? or do I just need to make one from a sheet of gasket material??
any and all advise is welcome and needed _________________ Roketa Gk32 800cc, shaved head, custom cam, modified air intake, aftermarket fuel pump and adjustable pressure regulator.

well we figured this out. there was a glob of rtv silicone in the injector path on #3, took the fuel rail and intake off and made sure all the paths were clear of silicone or gasket material. Now it running fine.
Since the mod. the engine has more power off idle but seems to be having an issue accelerating at 4000 rpms it will after a few seconds go ahead up to 6000 then in forth has the same issue getting to 3400. Before it would go to 3400 fight our of 3rd.
I will need to do further testing with the timing and fuel pressure. Added some octane boost. too see if this helps. _________________ Roketa Gk32 800cc, shaved head, custom cam, modified air intake, aftermarket fuel pump and adjustable pressure regulator.

After further testing, Discovered I needed the fuel pressure at 34 psi at idle, which boost to 38 psi , set the total advance to 29 degrees . now this will really get up. Much more power on the bottom and no more bogging at 4000 rpms. I was trying to set the initial timing but that apparently does not work. After setting the total advance from 22 to 29 degrees the initial adv only increase from 7 to 9. humm 8 degrees tot but only 2 initial. I guess the computer adjust the initial or the idle speed since the idle speed did not change. no matter is good now and with the head shave and cam this buggy runs excellent. _________________ Roketa Gk32 800cc, shaved head, custom cam, modified air intake, aftermarket fuel pump and adjustable pressure regulator.

Glad you figured it out. Where did you get your cam, how much did you shave the head, and what is the final compression? Van _________________ 2005 Joyner 650 Turbo

Got the cam from WestCoast he can do a custom cam grind to your specifications. He did mine for low end torque. I had the head shaved .033 and had not problems with the temps. I have 180 psi compression on each cylinder now. I have also replace the fuel pump with a msd 43gph and a powerflow adjustable high pressure regulator adjust from 20 to 75 psi. That way I can dial in my pressure. Right now I'm at about 34 at idle and 38 to 40 when the vaccum comes in.
I am going to do a plug check on every ride and when the plugs are barely off white slightly tan I will recheck the pressure and post these final pressure. As you know every motor will be a little different.
I am not sure how much horsepower gain this is but has ALOT more power now. _________________ Roketa Gk32 800cc, shaved head, custom cam, modified air intake, aftermarket fuel pump and adjustable pressure regulator.

Did you get your fuel pressure figured out?

Yea I after a bit of testing I ended up at 33 psi at idle and up to 37 psi when the vacuum comes on. _________________ Roketa Gk32 800cc, shaved head, custom cam, modified air intake, aftermarket fuel pump and adjustable pressure regulator.

Are you happy with your low end power with the mods you made? I am thinking changing the cam but going turbo with a header and a muffler. I have been told if you deck the head you can't turbo it because of the added compression. I am also going to change the fuel pump and reg if I go turbo. What did the fuel pump setup cost you and what model was it?
Thanks Mike
