The valve adjustments are very important to keeping the engine to top performance. I have a manual to show you all about the care of the LJ276M engine.
If you would like a copy please let me know.

A service manuel would be great. What is the price?
Jacumba, how did you know the valves need adjustment? Noise, power loss?

I have 3 different manuals that cover some of the same topics while informing you of other areas of repair.
Also have the entire parts manual -- and carry the parts here in USA..
The manual set is $35.00
The Parts Book is $22.00
Let me know what you need.

If your engine suffers lack of adjustment then of course there will be power loss, and yes noise from the rockers clicking. This is a definate sign that the valve is not opening all the way for proper performance.
We have dyno'd the engines for 2 years, tested every aspect of the motor right at the factory. I have worked with the manufacturer closely during the entire time. AND yes we have re-defined some of the parts. As example, look at the cam drive gear for the distributor. It is brass.
Our new gears are steel. What happens with the brass is it expands with engine heat at a different temp from the steel in the engine. So what happens is the brass gear splits and opens. Thus again giving you poor performance. AND with it split it WILL tear up the distributor gear. Tossing pieces into the oil pan. OH and yes the engine will stop running, at this time you are in hopes that the engine did not run out of time and do valve damage.
I have worked close with these engines and found any problem points, then worked to correct them. We have the steel cam drive gears specially made just for us.
We have flow tested the carbs, intake, exhaust, everything that can be flow tested, and yes after flow testing and setting some settings, then polish and port pieces, the result is a change in top speed from 50 mph to 73 mph. Yes they can go very fast.!!!!!
Power - yes we can pull a 4 sleeper camper without loss of mileage, and only drop top speed to 66 mph.
So having your engine at peek also makes it last longer with less problems and cleaner burn so lower emissions.
Just let me know any questions you may have, if I not know the answer since I have direct connection with the factory I can get an answer,

The reason I think it need a valve is because I have had trouble geting it started. It take about 20 or so trys to get it going. When I try to start it, it will almost catch then stall almost catch then stall. I even burnt up the brushes on my starter trying to get it going. So I called the place in AZ where the Joyners are put togther at, and talked to a tech adviser and he recomends adjusting the valves to see what that does. That was a month ago. I called him back and asked how to do the adjustment. He told me if I do it cold, have the cam lobes down, in take at 4000 out take 5000. I will give it a try this weekend then I will get back to you.

Sounds like a valve adjustment, if they are not opening then yes hard starting. You should never crank the engine longer than 15 or so seconds as the starter will get to hot and damage it. The lead from the ignition switch should be at least a 10 or 12 gauge wire. Otherwise amp is to low to solenoid. This could also be an issue to the hard starting like a dead battery.
As for valve adjustment you should be hearing ticking. As there is will be slop room between rocker clearance.
Let me know about your findings.

I did the valve adjustment OH MY GOD! Its like a whole new buggy! It took about a half hour. I turn the key and it fired up like never before. It came with the valves out of adjustment I know that for sure! Hills I used to have it in 1st gear pedle to the metal to make it up, now I can putt up them in 2nd gear! I think everybody should adjust their valves just to see.

So glad you found success, I am sure with your post many will find the importance of keeping the engine at top performance.
