...is still seems odd that a bigger sprocket would give you more bottom end. it would seem that having more teeth to turn it would make is horrible on climbing but give it more top end. i dunno i cant picture it in my head working like that. but phrugby
has i think a 39 tooth on his and he said it never bogs that it will spin before is just sits there on a hill eating at the clutch. he has been telling me for a while to get a bigger sprocket but i wouldnt listen but crap this is my 5th clutch in 5 or 6 months..

A larger axle sprocket will turn your axle slower with more torque. A larger engine sprocket will drive your axle faster with less torque. You just had the ratios reversed in your thinking. If you were to put 5.41's in the rear end of your car, it have more torque and less speed than 3.73's - The same applies to the buggies.

TECH details......its a pain. i found it was easiest to dissconnect the old sprocket while its still on the buggy to weisel the axel off the frame. you get a little bit of play side to side when the sprocket isnt stuck in that 4 inch area where the chain guard goes on those brackets. i removed my rear disc completely off and didnt put it back on because my rear caliper was bad anyway. im not sure how hard it will be to install the axel again with the brake disc still on there and dealing with the 37T sprocket. dont attach the 37T untill you have the axel on all the way in position. there is very very little clearance between the chain and cross bar. so when installing the chain take the master link out. keep the buggy on jackstands and roll the tires by hand to guide the chain through that small area. i still dont have extra links. i rigged it to work for now. i know its not best for the buggy so one of these days soon ill get a hold of some new chain links. i think ill try napa auto parts sometime before this weekend....

i have some inprocess pics at home. if you need picture guidence just ask. ill post some.

We have carried the 37 tooth sprockets for a few years now for the double Chain Buggies. I have made it work with the stock chain, and we had som longer chains in stock as well. We are currently out so you may need to call Tom but I wabted to point out that the 39 tooth we had for a while is simply too large, and can hit the engine. In fact, if you do not grind down the case a tiny bit on the 37 you will start to see a small grrove in the engine from the chain over time. It is fourtunatly a meaty area andyou will be fine.

Right at the bottom of the engine is a little "knuckel" that the chain will hit... I think ACBlind has a picture of it in his gallery or in one of his posts...

We ground ours down with a Dremel. It doesn't take much so don't be too agressive with it. You'll see it when you get it on there...

at first i had no clue where you guys were talking about on the motor where the chain could hit. so i went into my office to look at the buggy. my 37T is about 3/4 of an inch from the "knuckle" on the motor but is about 3/16 from hitting the bar that the chain guard goes on. now i see why the 39T wouldnt fit.
