Folks,

My Buggy's been down since before the first Buggy Bash. I went anyway and hung out while a few of the guys tried to help me out. What we discovered was a plethora of problems. The buggy still doesn't run, but I finally acknowledged the fact that I was not going to devote the time to fixing it, and took it to a shop.

The mechanic tells me the timing chain was very loose and he thinks it may have jumped or slipped a tooth causing things to get messed up and possibly causing a bent valve. His reccommendation? Replace the engine (for $1,500). For $2,000 he could put a "High Performance Kit" on it that would "...make it scream". My machine is a Peirspeed Cobra 252 that I paid $2,005 for. Obviously I have no desire to pay $2,000 to get her back on the road. I have been looking for a suitable replacement (mostly on ebay) with little luck.

I have found several Lifan" 250CC motorcycle engines for sale at reasonable prices. My belief is that if these can make a bike do 75MPH, they should be able to make the buggy do around 50 which would be a 20MPH improvement over what I was getting out of it. My question at last; Can I put a 250CC air cooled motorcycle engine in my buggy and will it perform and stay cool enough?

Your thoughts and responses are appreciated as always!

Sean

Yes but you must do a lot of work.
In Portugal, we are changing the 275cc engine Watter cooled, to the engine of Honda CB 500 and ....cbr 600 !!!!!
You can see it on «google» or yOutube.
You must type «Jocsports»... Exclamation

The engine swap you speak of is major surgury it wont just bolt in. If you are going to do a swap, you would be better off looking for a used name brand engine, it will cost less and getting parts will be much easier. The polaris quad engines and snowmobile engines work best because they have a cvt system similar to what the buggy has now and require less mods. Do a search on the sight and you will find alot of info from people who have done previous swaps. Van
