hey guys was wondering if you like the joyner 650
I started w/150cc, & I really, really liked it; Then I bought the 250, & I loved it; Then ... (because my wife wanted 1 more -- buggy) I graduated to Team Joyners 2007 Sand Spider 650cc...
I now own; what I feel is; the ultimate, all purpose (we ride both m/x & wide open dunes & some tight narrow trails), tough & well built, plush riding, Begs 4 the Dunes Buggy, Ive ever had the pleasure of driving !!

Only - slight - down side (call them tradeoffs) of the 650 (in my opinon) ...

Steering radius; will not hug tight turns nearly as well as our smaller buggys (But excellent torque - thanks to Weber Carb. mod & custom built headers - for power slidding thru tite corners).

Gear ratio; I hate to say anything neg about this rig, But... stock gearing, limits this fine buggy. 1st is a bit too tall 4 any rock climbing/crawling, or just simply riding w/ the Women on slow narly trails ! I'm Thinking of running 24" in. tires on rear, down from 25", but only real option to granny gear is gear swaping/diff trans. ?? unless Im missing an Option I havent heard about :?: :-k
& 5th (I mean) 4th gear is soooo tall, even w/Weber carb (tuned well) can only get revs to mid range or so on flat, level, hard terrain... & I was doing 55mph !!! W/turbo I bet this thing go 65mph !!! 8) But wait a min. I really dont want to go that fast !! With my kids (which I can seldom convince to Get Out & let me go faster), they love the Faster but I am not comfortable w/my kids (who will some be pestering my me 4 Drivers seat time).

Did I say I Love this thing !!! Kinda depends on the terrian U ride, whats best for you. But I highly recommend this Buggy !!!!

I & pghruby R both interested in gearing mods on this Awesome rig !! Lower 1st & 4th ?? 2nd is plenty low to accomadate lower 1st...
&/or RE commando trans. what is the final (estimated) overall reduction in speed ?? very interested in this, but big dough, & would not want to go too extreme on gearing reduction.

The Joyner 650 Commado utulizes the same engine/tranny as the 650 sand spider. The only difference between the 2 machines is the transmission gear ratios. The Commando has a very low (granny) gear and top speed is only about 45-50 mph. You could do a complete tranny swap and have the gearing you desire for low end torque but there would be a trade off for top speed.

I have an 06 Sand Spider and have recently sold my 07 Spider. I have owned the 06 for just over 1 year and have 620 miles on it. I don't get to use it as much as some other people do, but I have not had any problems yet. The buggy seems to be pretty well built and reliable for the Chinese. I really enjoy the buggy and sometimes ride around my subdivision just to get seat time. I ride mostly on atv trails so the gearing is not problem for me. The gearing on the 06 and 07 is exactly the same, but I can't speak for the 05 gearing. I would recommend these buggies to any one, they are a lot of fun and are fast enough to get you into trouble if you ride on trails through the woods. The one thing I would say is to replace the stock 2 ply tires, they are too easy to puncture. I plan to do some engine mods in the future, but first I am replacing the shocks. Others who have done both engine and suspension mods say the suspension should come first. I have bought some remote reservoir clicker snowmobile shocks for the front and plan on getting the Fox shocks recommended by JBQUADRIDER for the rear.
I say go for it.

Check the lower rear a-arms...They bend pretty easy if the buggy has been jumped much......Not a big problem, just something to be aware of.....

As to ...
Quote:

, compared to my GTR & GSR, the stock joyner 650 suspension is very plush (x 4 smoother ride than our 150cc) & takes hard landings well, the wt. balance (front to back) begs for more air time, as it does not have the same nose heavy feel, my other buggys do. Stock shocks are pretty good as far as OEM goes; But just as joyner650x2, I may well do some susp. mods also (in the fall, when more time to devote to this fabulous buggy)... as always want More/Better !!

Glade... Im gona hold off on trans gearing issue .For Now..I may, still be interested in this, later... Can U give me $ estimate on this complete trans swap (do I remember reading diff 1/2 shafts required also) ?? But thinking maybe try 24" rear tires (down from 25"), In my litl mind should decrease top speed by about 5% ?? while adding litl more torque thru entire range.
Need to get brake pads (Emerg. br pads - shot; & should replace all of rear, so 3 pairs of pads) & pair of pass. side Ball Joints (drivers side real tite-must have been done previously). And I think a should get some A-Arm bushings to help titen front end up - so 8 new bushings also (Are the front bushings same spec. as rear ?? ) few of these were run loose due to stripped threads, so I already picked up new grade 8 bolts & grease zerts ready 4 install (wish factory would have installed grease zerts-this is a must for our riding conditions). Also a pair of irridium plugs, U got these plugs ?
