You might consider (RE used buggy inspection) jacking up & inspecting Ball joints & A-arm bushings, as susp. is only as good as linkage components allow it to be... & frame fatique/cracks & other premature wear, could easily be a result of too much slop in linkage &/or ball joints. Unless U come across as good a deal as I made - $3900 for heavily modified, well maintained 2007 650cc (MudderTed-previous owner; was obviously maticulous on the maintainance of my new toy). I felt was a good price/deal, even w/needing litl parts $. _________________ Team Farm...

No, No dont misunderstand me... I Love this buggy, it is absolutely my Fav.!! as to digital dash, my an 07 & does not have digital speedo.
Several reasons Id like to gear down tho, most of which are a non issue to 90% of 650 Sand Spider owners...My personal riding preferences, terrain we ride the most(Eastern Wa. has some great open spaces (just not alot of Wide - Open Spaces), safety of my growing up fast, Sons (whom are already wanting-Drivers Seat Time). Most of these reasons R posted on the 2005 Joyner 650 project buggy-Post ...

I hate to say anything neg about this rig, But... stock gearing, limits this fine buggy. 1st is a bit too tall 4 any rock climbing/crawling, or just simply riding w/ the Women on slow narly trails !

5th (I mean) 4th gear is soooo tall, even w/Weber carb (tuned well) can only get revs to mid range or so on flat, level, hard terrain... & I was doing 55mph !!! W/turbo I bet this thing go 65mph + !!! But wait a min. I really dont want to go that fast, with my kids !!
they love the Faster thing, but I am not comfortable w/my kids (if/when I allow them to drive it) having the ability to get this kinda speed (they'd be grounded for life, but kids R kids, & dad cant always see them over that there ridge).

I think better ratios on these buggies would help almost as much as a carb upgrades.

I really need a lower 1st gear to help me crawl over the real rocky sections

except for 4th gear. it is too high in the 2005 (Sand Spider), it is like an overdrive. the 2006 (Commando) makes 1st gear kinda useless most of the time. Ideal would be a combination of the two with a little taller first than the 06 and a little shortwer 4th than the 05. Or better yet a 5 speed with the granny low that you only need once in a while and the overdrive 4th of the 05 that is rarly used as well.
turbodude Cleared this up;

the newer spider and the commando have the same trans. gearing.. The commando is lower because of the front and rear diff's. they are 2:1 cutting the ratio in half.

Not much choice in the Uk at the moment ....until these catch on.. but I absolutely adore my 650 Uk road legal. I'm even spending on a new garage to protect him.
Its replaced my 1200 bandit so that must say something.
Do need more power though just to beat others at the lights.
