Just got off the phone with the dealer. They had told us when we took the GTR in that Carter is pretty bad about sending the wrong parts and, well.....apparently....Carter sent the wrong part. He says Carter is working on verifying the new part is the right one and that they will get it out as soon as possible. If I were to venture a guess, I would bet that they sent a Talon part instead of a GTR part. And since the GTRs are new, even the 250 is only a year old, I'm sure they haven't had need to stock very many parts for them yet, so, of course I'm worried about how long the wait is going to be, but I'm keeping faith in Carter's reputation that they will take care of the problem.
It's teh end of March and we have about a month or so left before riding season ends in the SoCal deserts because of the heat. So, hopefully, we get to take the thing out a couple times before then. _________________ Carter Brothers gtr 300
I can't believe the bad your having. I admire your patience.
But stocking parts apparently isn't their best point.
Found that out too when I needed a new front brake disk
and a new speedo. Thought it was our Dutch Carter importer that had some problems with parts, but it seems Carter US has them too.
My dealer had a brand new GTR just as a parts donor.
Great guy, good way to keep his clients happy, but business wise that isn't a good way to make money. He agrees but said he had no other choice.
Maybe some gentile persuasion to your dealer is in order here
I hope you get you time in the sand soon...
(all in self interest off course, can't wait to see the pics )

Jackster's got a Great Dealer, Lucky !! My local D. is pretty much a putz, everything done a snails pace, & Carter parts sent only some the right parts (ordered struts & new fr. fender brackets-struts no boots, & brackets had no back 1/2 of clamps).
Got a question on speedo/tach... didnt find source 12v fuse, after main fuse holder melt down no longer has speedo. Have'nt yet got meter out to check, but w/no fuse suspect the worst. Jackster U said you ordered new one, wondering why ?? _________________ Team Farm...

First of all, I wish your friend's son a full recovery and a lot of strength to his family during this most difficult time.
My speedo went nuts after some time driving, gave good rpm standing still. But as soon as i got the kart moving the thing started blinking on and off on every turn of the back axle.
Checked all wiring and measured the pickup at the axle. All OK.
Turned out to be the speedo itself. Some water got in and shorted out the circuit. No repair possible.
Sealed the new one with a crimp hose and silicone.
Now its completely watertight. Had no problems since.

You mean my buggy? It had a bad regulator rectifier and wasn't charging the battery. Then Carter sends the wrong one and now they say it will be the 27th. It's ok tho, because my trailer is in the shop waiting on parts too.... I'm such a loser!!! Jackster, I'm starting to forget what it's like to be a buggy owner. I have my green sticker and my pink slip but no buggy. Off-topic, we noticed a two way plug ziptied to the frame and can't figure out what it's for. Do you know? (it's a 2 pin version of a typical 4 way trailer light hook-up. ) _________________ Carter Brothers gtr 300
I'm sorry Firebird but this is to much...
Not trying to hurt your feelings but...
Are you sure it doesn't say Chevy Chase on your ID?
It's beginning to sound like National Lampoon's buggy adventures... lol
Still I know what it's like, I had to wait for 3 months after agreed date to take delivery of mine. With winter getting closer and closer. I was not amused... not at all...
About the 2-way plug. Where is in situated on the frame?
Maybe your 300 is wired a bit different from my 250.
Just to make sure we're talking bout the same thing.

!! LOL !! our "China Buggies" would make for great story line in a Chevy Chase Comedy.
Also; my Tach/speedo prob. has Magically seemed to have cured itself... Yah !!... during our Easter Ride, noticed dim read out, got better till even had my cool blue back lite, got brighter (probably condensation & freezing nites was meshing w/my neat, but very user unfriendly located; speedo(which I dont trust accuracy of) /tach. /Hr. meter- which I love).
Do you believe your speedo Jackster, Firebird ?? assuming is stock settup, as to applys to speedo/tach. My settup on 250 is mostly stock... Gearing, tire size, OEM rollers, clutch/torque spring, but Mod intake, exhaust, irrid pl. & speedo says top speed @ 62 mph... ??? 150cc Carter while keeping up says 42 mph... tend to beleive the 150s speedo. ?? _________________ Team Farm...

The plug is zip tied to the frame right above the battery/cdi box. It looks long enough to extend out the back by the hitch. I know that California law requires any trailer being towed to have lights, so I wonder is this is a California model thing. I looked in the 250's part manual that Jackster had posted and it doesn't look like it exists on the 250. Hmm, maybe I can wire extra lights to this thing...
As far as my speedo----It has read a top speed of 46 on the dirt with one person and 42 with two people. Since it literally rides on the heels of my friend's Rhino, I think it's pretty accurate. TeamFarm, the problem you're describing sounds like a loose or corroded connection or a short to me. I work with electrical and electronic components for a living. Moisture could certainly be a contributing factor as well, as in Jackster's problem. _________________ Carter Brothers gtr 300
62 on a almost stock GTR? I don't think so.
My 250 did about 45 (on the speedo) when it was stock.
OK not 100% accurate, but close enough for me.
So yes, 42 could very well be true.
I wonder why yours is off by such a large margin?
The moisture must have done some damage already.
I figured water did in my first speedo.
I got a new one under warranty (hey... asking for it is free).
Waterproofed my new one.
Checked my connectors today.
Can't find anything like you're describing...
No extra connector...
Maybe you're right and it is something for CA.
Suppose that with a hitch on the back your state regulations asume it's going to be used for towing something (yes very clever ). And therefore provisions for lighting are mandatory.
But I wouldn't be to confident about connecting an extra pair of lights to it. I don't think the stator is upgraded to accommodate for the extra wattage.
Could be nothing more than a 2 dollar solution to follow state rules.
As a professional you probably have access to some decent equipment to measure the output. Definably worth doing first.
And handy to know... I measured the voltage, it was about 14V.
But I don't have a decent Amp-meter.
I was thinking about some extra head lights too.
But I don't want to strain my electricals to much.
On mine there are some things different from yours too.
My head light are set about 8" further apart.
And I have 2 back lights instead of one.
So clearly they make it to fit any local regulations.
Isn't that difficult i suppose... as they are made in batches anyway.
