Hi guys, I have a 2007 hammerhead 250ss which is street legal and I'm just trying to find insurance! Before I even bought the thing, I had quoted it through geico and got a quote of $137.00 a year. That seemed very reasonable so I bought it. Once I went to buy the policy they say they don't insure these. So I called around to other places..
Progressive "We don't insure go karts"
The General "We only offer automobile insurance"
Farmers- "Yeah, we insure those" after looking for the price "Our company will not write for this."
So I called back geico frustrated that they quoted me and now wouldn't cover it... So they decided they could quote a custom plan for it as a sand rail... I got that price back today, and it is about double.. $199.60. That's not horrible, but it is more than quoted, and more than I see others paying for similar things...
One member replied to a PM I had sent him and has a 2007 polaris insured for 108 yearly with full coverage. I have my quote with geico for 5-7 days... So if anyone can tell me where to go before them for a quote on this, I would much appreciate it!!

Go to aztoyinsurance.com thats where I insured mine. It's through Allstate and my local agent wouldn't offer me anything even though I have all of my policies through him.I didn't know it was Allstate until the agent ran my name in his computer and my other policies popped up.With my multi policy discount I pay about $150 a year for both my HH250SS.

By the way, I like your front tires and your UNI setup. What brand and size are they? I run the Carlisle 4 max 20-7-8 and want something bigger. If you have any pictures of your UNI setup I would love to see how you did it. I run a UNI also but it's straight to the carb and gets real dusty.I also have the 17 gram sliders and Polini torque spring installed and love the extra low to midrange power I get.

Paintman- Thanks, I written them and will see what they had to say. I had found that before but it read as though they only insured for off road use.
As far as the tires go, we have the same size... this is the tires that's on it: http://www.onlineparts.com/BKT+AT%2D108+Tire+20x7%2D8.html I don't know if they're stock or replacement, it's what was on it when I bought it... The guy gave me two more fronts... I wonder if they're even the same thing.. I'll have to check.
For the UNI... I just installed that/jetted it/gutted the exhaust some over the weekend... then the "winter storm" showed up. I kept running lean, so I've gone waaaay up in jet size and have not had a chance to test run it yet. Can you tell me your altitude and what jet you're using? I think I'm going to shorten the tube just a little bit... it is a 2" radiator hose 90degree. (I went with part # 71595 from pepboys this has a flair on the short end, I cut the flair off where the hose was down to 2". I put the short end of this hose on the factory 180 pipe with that hose pointed slightly toward the drivers side. The hose then sticks up nice and long... I chose this long hose for a reason. Explained next ) I then bought a 2' piece of PVC from lowes (sold precut) it is 1.50" ID. 1 7/8 OD... I left this piece long, and inserted it down into the radiator hose and used 2 hose clamps to hold it secure (one at the top, one near the bottom) The reason for this, I've heard people talking about different lengths of pipes and it affecting the vehicle differently. So, I'm wondering if once I find the right jetting.. I'll be able to lengthen the pipe or shorten it when I change altitude, instead of changing the jet... Or at least be able to fine tune it... but first I need to finish rough tunning it.. and see if changing this length ACTUALLY makes a noticeable difference at all :p
Wow- that was off topic! Hope it helps you though... and thanks again for the link!
Andrew
PS it's hard to see what I've done from the pictures... If you'd like, I can try to get something clearer during daylight.
I'm in Prescott at 5000 ft elevaton and an still trying different jets also.I have been real lean with a 122.5 and now am running a 125.I bought a 130 but haven't tried it yet.The dealer in Buckeye that I bought mine from said a 135 works well around the Phoenix area in his buggy.

Hi David;
I live in Tempe at elevation 1185 ft but do most of my driving at 1600 ft around Arizona City. The stock #114 (0.045") jet worked fine until I put on a UNI air filter and low restriction muffler. A #130 (0.051") was OK except at full throttle so I now run a #135 (0.053"). I have a drill press and drill bits so I just drilled-out my original jet. Not sure that this information will help you or not. I have my air filter on a short PVC 90 degree male/female fitting, straight up to keep it out of the dust. I first tried a longer tube but did not work. I am attaching a picture of my set-up.
I filled out the form for the aztoyinsurance site.. and have yet to hear back from them... I finally talked geico into giving me a quote, the only way they would do it is to write it as a custom sand buggy... They want $99.80 for 6month for liability.. That's 1/3 what I pay for a 2003 Dodge dakota quad cab 4x4 with full coverage... That doesn't sound right... Anyone else?
Thanks!
Andrew
edit: i called the toy insurance folks, and the phone number goes to an Allstate agent... the aztoy people are gone and alstate took over their accounts (according to this guy)

My son pays $15 a month, liability only ($90 for 6 mo). Seems like this is the going rate from what I see from you guys. Anything more and you're getting screwed. This seems like a lot of money to me, but I guess it is a high risk vehicle. The rate would have a lot to do with your age I would imagine. Liability coverage is limited to damage you would do to someone else's property. We drive in the desert here in Arizona and I don't think some cactus will sue us if we hit it. _________________ ALZWEL (Frank)
