also, If anyone would be willing to post a list of pre-trip and packing items It would be appreciated greatly. I haven't made but one outing and it was hardly an excursion. I would like to know what kind of camping, lodging, food, etc...arangements everyone was interested in. If we are able to camp near by that is great, and if we need to find lodging.
The company I work for has a cabin in Baldwin on Big Star Lake that we can stay at for free as long as I reserve it in time. The cabin has two bedrooms with queen beds and a loft that has 6 singles, so there is room for many. Let me know what you think. I am a camper myself...

Hey Nick welcome to BN, if you haven't done a Meet n Greet let everyone know who you are and where your at. Big Star will be about 20 miles away from the trail head, later in this post I'll have closer lodging and camping info for everyone.

Lets start with the Bad I stopped by the DNR office and talked to a member of the County ATV Trail Board.

There are no County roads open at this time to travel from Manistee/Lincoln to Tin Cup trails. They are meeting next month and this is schedule to be brought up but we may need to send some correspondince to the county and change some thinking.

The Good News, according to the DNR office you don't need to have a vehicle pass to park at the trail heads all you need is the ORV Tag for your Buggy.

Lodging

Wolf Lake Motel and Resort (1 1/2 mile from Trail Head)
www.wolflakemotel.com (231) 745-4101
Cabins range from $39-$149 a night, very nice location and Owner.
Daystar Motel (1 1/2 Mile from Trail Head)
(231) 745-2111 (Did not stop Bye)
Several others located closer to Baldwin

Camping

North Country Campground (On Trail Head Privately owned)
Looks like Full/Parcel and Rustic sites (Closed for Season) I sent them an E-mail to obtain info and prices. Nice Location
(231) 745-4410
State Campgrounds (No Reservation 1st come 1st serve)No veh pass needed, hand pump water, and portable toilets
Carrieville (Rustic) on trail
25 Small trailer and tent sites
1 Large (40' or less) site
Lincoln Bridge (Rustic) walkin
Tent sites.

I was told we need to make reservation as early as possible to enough spaces for everyone. If I forgot anything let me Know and as soon as I get a reply back from North Country I'll post the info. Sorry for the long Post I tried to get as much done as possible in the hour I had.

Jerry

Great information Jerry--Thanks!!

One question:

You DO need a MI State Park Permit to camp there, though, right?

Hey Guy, according to the State Web site veh passes are not required if you are camping at the campgrounds and that was also supported at the DNR Field Office. I think you are paying for that when you pay for the campsite. I'm still waiting for a return E-mail from North Country Campgrounds with prices and amenities.
Now all we have to do is pick a date I was thinking the weekend of April 26 and 27 that way it's not too close to Mothers day. We need all the MI riders that want to attend to Chime in on the date.
