Does anyone have any feedback on the American Sportworks, AKA Manco's, XTK-713E. I am looking to buy a buggy for my wife and 8yo daughter. My 5yo son and I ride quads. However, when they don't go riding with us, I would like play around with it also.
What I am looking for is Power, Reliability, Integrity and fun.
The XTK boasts a 404cc subaru engine, which caught my eye, however it is producing only 13.5HP. First, is Subaru engines reliable? Second why only 13.5HP with 404cc? Is this good compared to machines that are 250cc w/ 18-20HP?
What else I like about the XTK is the KISS design. Keep It Simple Stupid. I dont need mirrors, turn signals, luggage racks etc. I just see it as added weight, and if I want I can always tweak it to my liking later on down the road. However, as simple as it looks, is it still a quality cart?
Lastly is that the price sits well with me, if it in fact has power, and is reliable and of good quality. Another plus is the maufacturer is less than an hour away, I believe.
Please, experienced buggy enthusiasts, give me some feedback, I wanna get out there and do some buggying with my whole family.
The design is simple. There is very little suspension. I am sure that your wife and daughter will quickly lose interest in your off road excursions when they continually get beat to death by the lack suspension.
In my opinion, there are better karts out there that would give your wife and daughter a much better off road experience. If they are happy, then the whole family will enjoy outdoor fun much better.
I agree with Glade,
if it's reliability you're looking for, the Manco may not be your best choice to start with. They're working on it but You really get what you pay for with these buggies and unless you like "tinkering" with it all the time, I think it's best to start a little higher up the buggy ladder.
Check out your local dealer and compare models if you can. If not, come up with a few others you might be interested in and we can steer you in the right direction.
Of course, you can never go wrong with a Blade or Hammerhead!
Once you get the right buggy for what you want to use it for, we can get you "modded up" for your specific riding!
Good luck! You started in the right place! _________________ -Tom-

If I go a little higher up on the buggy chain, I would have to drop to the 250 class.
I've looked into the HH250 and the HH250SS. I liked them but don't know the differences between the two.
I have also looked into the Joyner 250, and the Blade 250XT. I liked both of them.
Some other brands that I considered looking into is Yerfdog, Dazon and Tomberlin, not sure if tomberlin offers a 250 though.
Problem is, I'm a quad guy. I dont know anything about these buggies. Although I've caught the bug and want one. I recently bought a chinese brand quad for my son to get him started, I know that I would like to avoid the kind of issues that I have had with it. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind tinkering, it comes along with powersports, but I don't want something that is constantly unjustly breaking down.
I live in Indiana so I wouldn't be dealing with sand and open dunes. Being west of the Mississippi I would be dealing with dirt and mud, wooded quad trails, hill climbs (not mountains) and open fields.
The HH250ss is just the supersport and boasts an mp3 player hookup, powered speakers and a couple other really minor things, the plain 250 has none of that but, everything that counts is the same. TJ will be bringing out a new economy version of the 250 that won't be shaft drive to cut the cost.
The hi/low in the HH250 is really nice too.
The Joyner is really nice but a bit too heavy for the 250 engine. _________________ -Tom-

I must jump in here, Tom. I do not know where this old wife's tale of the Joyner being too heavy for the 250 motor came from but it is not true. The Joyner 250 performs extremely well. Though it may be true it is heavier than other buggys in the same class, it is not a dog. There is no other buggy on the market that will compare to the Joyner suspension, either.

Yep, but it is heavy... Too heavy for the 250cc, I'm not sure about. There are two guys in here in the Northeast that have them and both of them perform well. I think Tom was just digging on them. _________________ Chris Dierkens

I agree with glade. I am not a buggy dealer or have I ever met or talked with him. I am a Joyner 250cc owner. For the little bit of speed I my loose from being heavy the way it rides in my opinion makes up for it. I know my wife doesn't want to feel like she went 3 rounds with Mike Tyson after every ride. If she feels like she got beat up she not going to want to go again. In my opinion buy a Joyner or Hammerhead or a Blade cart. You will be able to get part when you need them and there is good dealer support on this site. Just my 2 cents.
