I got this message from my friend that works at the newspaper where Paddy's Bluff is located......
PADDY’S BLUFF IS

Good thing we didn't choose it as this year's location.

There is going to be an indepth article in this Thursday's paper about what is going on. When I get a copy I'll post up here.
I don't think he was pressured to close down, I think someone paid him a bundle of cash for the property....rumor has it that a rock quarry bought it. We'll know for sure hopefully Thursday.

In our area the rock quarries are drying up and companies are looking for resources to be opened up by the state or feds. They claim that every 25 miles material has to be transported by truck will cost as much as the material itself. They are now looking for quarries on islands where they can use barges to move rock... _________________ 08 Joyner SandViper 250

Makes sense. Moving material by truck is about as inefficient as you can get with diesel prices like they are. I hear the railroad companies making claims about how much cheaper it is to transport by rail now because of the fuel prices. _________________ Buggies....

Vulcan Materials is the big rock quarry around here. anyway, I was talking to a guy that works on the river the other day, and I was suprised to here that it takes apprx. a gallon of fuel per 24hrs per HP when moving upriver.
he said they have some 5,000 on up to 11,000 hp barges, that is 11,000 gallons of fuel a DAY every DAY they go up river!!!
unless the guy was all wet?
we have what looks like a barge go by every 15min or so here by the river. that just kinda freaked me out, especially when "they" want me to ride a bicycle to work or a scooter. _________________ Buggy-less at the moment.

If your bicycle could move that amount material, I'd say you valid comparison. Take different transportation methods and add up what is would cost to transport X amount of material. Each one will reach a break point where another transport becomes cheaper. If you are in logistics and actually know your job, you can save your company a lot money knowing these break points. Kelly, you ride your scooter and deliver 30 lbs of gravel to customer A while I'll hop into double dump semi and deliver 75,000 lbs to customer B... _________________ 08 Joyner SandViper 250

I'll bet that Paddy's Bluff is put under somekind of development deal with in the next five or ten years. Thats the only reason they would shut it down. Some political pig just got paid _________________ NEBA Member
